View Full Version : Republican Convention Day 3

Mr. Peabody

So far, Romney was OK. I really thought he'd be better.

Huckabee is doing a good job. He's a little better at speaking to the average voter.

Mr. Peabody

Huckabee's joke about Palin getting more votes in Wasilla than Biden got for president completely flew over Olbermann's head.

It's a joke Keith. You don't have to disprove everything in the speech.

It was a dumb joke lol. Huckabee sets the joke up with I'm sick of hearing how Palin doesn't have experience. What does getting votes have to do with experience? :lol

As an American I can't help but get into the moment and although I disagree with the republican platform they do know how to push patriotism which was also very powerful during Obama's nomination acceptance speech.
But you can clearly see the difference the vast difference between the diversity of the people at each convention.
Levi and Bristol do make a nice young looking couple.

It's funny because in Romney and Huckabee speeches, there were long stretches were it sounded as if they were actually advocating for Obama.

Romney was talking about the country's need for tax cuts, affordable health care and improved educational opportunities. Hell, those are the main issues of the Obama campaign. What major health care initiatives is McCain planning? What major education initiatives?

Friends, after 9/11, I knew McCain should be president. On 9/11, Palin was in Alaska preparing to be Vice-President. Obama doesn't believe in 9/11. Thank you and God Bless 9/11!

That was my view on it Rudy's speech. It fires up the base, but if you're an independent you would have to be skeptical when all he is doing is attacking. I thought Huckabee sounded a little more genuine and sincere.

I'm very much an undecided voter. Frankly, I don't like either ticket. But I am currently leaning more towards the McCain/Palin. (In part because of Palin)

I'm not on board with the Rights views of abortion, gun control, religion, gay marriage, etc etc etc ... and would from an ideological stand point, would vote Democrat. But I think the Dem's party as a whole has poor leadership, poor candidates that are too swayed by polls and not their ideals. Gore, Kerry and now Obama. I don't trust a one of them.

As for Palins performance tonight.... it was just that. If you were looking for in depth views and directions she will take, I can see why you weren't impressed. But tonight was simply a pep rally. Her 'get to know me' speech. Her opportunity to defend herself form the silliness that's been in the media the last few days about her. Just like the DNC was full of 'Eight is Enough' jabs, she took her opportunities to jab back at Obama.

I thought she did great. I don't see how anyone couldn't be at least somewhat impressed by her. She cool and confident, and people can relate to her on different levels. She came out on the big stage, and nailed it.

I'll be curious to see how she does in the upcoming weeks and months. While facing more intense pressure. The Biden/Palin debate should be good.

An attractive woman(MILF, by many a man standards...), A mother(which is a darn tough job in of itself) of a child with down syndrome, has a teenage daugther that is pregnant, member of NRA, etc.

Who couldn't identify with this woman??

I am a MILF and a mom and I do not identify with her at all.

I found her to be highly sarcastic and I can not stand that. I would not tolerate it in my child and I surely do not want it in my leaders.

I can agree with that. As an independent though I'm tired of these damn tatics of dividing people up to win elections. Please stop this shit.

She did a great job of feeding the crowd exactly what they wanted to hear but it didn't speak to me at all. I don't think republicans are taking into account the reason people want to vote for Barrack Obama. People think he's charming and like him. Trying to tear him down isn't going to work. They should have been a little more on side of the "we're willing to work with the other side as well."

Biden is going to murder her. She really opened the door for him with her aggressiveness tonight. He won't have to hold back.

I used my wife as a barometer for Palin's speech. My wife is not too in to politics, but she has decent instincts. When I was a Deaniac in 2004, she kept telling me that Kerry would get the nomination. Then during the general election, she kept telling me that Bush would win. This election, she likes Obama (then again I'm constantly taking him up), but is intrigued by Palin and remarked that she could see herself voting for someone like Palin.

On Palin's speech -she enjoyed the biographical part of the speech and kept commenting on the family during the cutaways. She enjoyed Palin talking up McCain. She did not, however, like the sarcasm and aggressive tone Palin displayed. By the end of the speech, she said that Palin was "different than she thought she'd be" and "too sarcastic."

Again, not a very political person, just a casual observer's take.

Nice stuff but honestly, Republicans can't help themselves but sound arrogant and aggressive, especially at a made-for-TV event like the GOP convention...

"different than she thought she'd be"

I was expecting something more along the lines of the speech she gave when McCain first introduced her, which was very positive.

The GOP screwed the pooch by sticking to the "VP=attack dog" plan for her speech. I was expecting a home run, but this was just red meat with a bio salad.

Some of my favorite clips of politicians doing what they do best. Being douchebags.

It came across as real to you because it plays to your bias, T.

Youre being shammed. As are others who do not share your particular bias.

My point was, sarcasm is funny as hell here, in this ineffectual internet forum. Save your crass remarks and condescending sarcasm for anonymity.

But when its you, on national TV, running for the 2nd spot in the free world....

Have some goddamn dignity is my point. Treat the "race" with the respect it deserves, even if the schmucks in the media and internet sphere do not. They are not running, YOU ARE. Act like it.
