Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's highly anticipated speech at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night nearly matched the record-setting numbers of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

Palin pulled in 37.2 million viewers across broadcast and cable networks, according to Nielsen Media Research.

That's 55% higher than Day 3 of the DNC, when her Democratic counterpart, Joe Biden, and President Clinton took the stage (24 million).

Cable news network estimates show Fox News is out in front with 9.2 million viewers (from 10 to 11:15 p.m.), followed by CNN with 6.2 million and MSNBC with 3.4 million. Note CNN won last week when the Democrats were on stage, and Fox News has been taking the lead now that the Republicans are having their turn. CNN and Fox News also bested the broadcasters in the adult demo. From 10 to 11 p.m., NBC had 7.7 million, CBS had 4.9 million and ABC had 5.9 million.
This was the third-highest telecast ever in the history of Fox News (only other two that were higher was a Bush address re: Iraq in '03 and a debate in '04).
Also, PBS just chimed in to say 3.2 million watched on their network, which brings Palin's total viewership on ad-supported and public airwaves to more than 40 million.

TV VIEWERS FOR PALIN, 10 PM ET

FOXNEWS 9,038,000
NBC 7,720,000
CNN 6,114,000
ABC 5,050,000
CBS 4,630,000
MSNBC 3,277,000

See the thread I started about the Hillary Clinton forum. Yes, there's a lot of them who will be voting for McCain/Palin.

Sorry dan, but you underestimated that whole "girl power" thing. And the more the media bashes Palin, the angrier they get. :lol

I guess this means we should just cancel the election?

I guess this means we should just cancel the election?

That certainly seems to be the liberal line of thinking around here. As far as most of them were concerned, it was in the bag as soon as McCain picked Palin.

I think he takes his feud with Olliely a little to personal, but I bet his reporting is 3-1 more accurate than what comes out of OAI (home of the Spurs) and FAUX News....

In the battleground state of Virginia , for example, Glenn Druckenbrod said he was heading to the local Republican headquarters Thursday to volunteer after watching Palin's speech.

"As a conservative, I've been frustrated since 1988 that we have been lacking an effective communicator," said Druckenbrod, a doctor from Fairfax Station , a suburb of Washington .

"We had George H.W. Bush , then Bob Dole , then George W. Bush . None were effective communicators. Now we've got John McCain . Like him or not, the guy doesn't light you up. Now the Republican Party has someone who can communicate."

The Obama campaign saluted Palin's speech, but strongly suggested that she could turn off some voters.

"She gave a very strong speech, for the ticket and for herself," said Robert Gibbs , a senior adviser to the Obama campaign.
