No, not for Martell Webster and Steve Blake. Martell Webster is talented but inconsistent. Blake is a solid guard but not explosive.

If the Spurs trade Manu they need an explosive player(s) back in return or else they're screwed. Travis Outlaw would be a bit better in trade and about the best they could do.

Spurs should try to work a deal for Carmello, Rudy Fernandez, Jamaal Crawford or maybe even Shawn Marion (they'll have to eat Matrix's contract though so that probably wouldn't happen).

And Spurs have postponed contract extension with Manu.

Talks should resume in a couple of months when Manu will be back and don't be surprised to hear in November or December that Manu has signed a two or three years extension.

Manu's value is hard to determine since he's goes all out and his minutes have to be limited as a 6th man. But he's also the team's leading scorer an second in assists. He turns the ball over a bunch but he makes clutch plays whenever the situation calls for it.

I don't know of any 2nd tier player (anyone not named Kobe, LBJ, or Wade) that can match him in value.

There are three guys in the league I'd trade Manu for, one of them is named James, one is named Wade and the third is already a Spur. If either James or Wade were near Manu's age I wouldn't consider them.

You never trade a superstar except for like--and that's why they are seldom traded until their value (read talent) is gone or nearly gone.

Manu has something beyond talent--he has that star quality charisma about his play that puts butts in the seats, viewers on TV and sells merchandise. Plus his Hispanic heritage attracts another block of fans world wide. Look at how many fans we have from Argentina alone.

And trading a superstar is especially tough when the superstar has an injury cloud hanging over him.

Manu at his best is probably untradeable. Are the Spurs ready to give up on him? I doubt it.

Overpaid, underperforming in big games. Does well as a second fiddle, until proven otherwise is a team killer who takes too many bad shots.

Dwight Howard
Good suggestion. You can't teach size, and he's getting better all the time, and is extremely young. I'd give that one some serious thought if I were the Spurs and Orlando were foolish enough to offer it.

Amare,
:lol

K.G.,
:lmao

Dirk,
:lmao :lmao :lmao

Deron Willams, CP3
Both excellent players, but not useful when you've already got an all-star at their position. Paul, for all his talent, is a pantywaist and hasn't yet proven to be durable IMO.

Bosh?
Bosh will be a Spur in two years; why trade away a good player for him now?

Kobe would be second fiddle on the Spurs.

We really need another big, especially one that can create his own shot, Dirk would do that and would be a good locker room guy.

Amare would be excellent with the pick and roll that TP runs. He can also defend if you funnel guys into him like the Spurs do.

K.G. would make the Spurs D the best in the game again and he can be second fiddle in crunch time.

Manu fucked up but you're pulling things out of your ass. The last thing the Spurs need are a couple of tomato cans. One shithead Manu at least has performed in the past and with little luck he'll maintain a level that those two will never even approximate.

Kobe would be second fiddle on the Spurs.
Yes, he would, until he got sand in his vagina about it and started fucking up games to prove a point or going to the media demanding a trade. The Spurs had a scoring champion before. It's really overrated. I'd rather have Manu and championships.

We really need another big, especially one that can create his own shot, Dirk would do that and would be a good locker room guy.
Yeah, that would be nice. Having a guy who can take over big games in crunch time is better, so I'll take Manu. If I want a big white guy who shares a position with Duncan, can't play defense and can hit three pointers, I'll call Bonner from the doghouse.

Amare would be excellent with the pick and roll that TP runs. He can also defend if you funnel guys into him like the Spurs do.
Amare's a "me first" guy who doesn't play defense, commits too many fouls and has only recently shown any signs of maturity. Oh yeah, his knee is a ticking time bomb. He would probably make TP's assist numbers go up because he requires someone to set the plate for him. He's a hell of a finisher.

K.G. would make the Spurs D the best in the game again and he can be second fiddle in crunch time.
Not sure what sport you've been watching, but KG can't even be second fiddle on his own team in crunch time. Hell, I'm not even sure he's third fiddle. The Spurs' defense would almost be good enough to make up for the fact that they wouldn't score more than 80 points a game. He's also a year older than Manu, so no thanks.

as long as we're speculating, i would only accept trading ginobili if roy and outlaw are involved.

i also oppose a contract extension for ginobili because it will mean giving him a raise or a continuation on the current salary path. by the time ginobili's contract expires he will be 33. giving him a raise or increased salary increments as he gets progressively older and less effective is just not a smart idea. spurs should let his contract expire and then offer him somewhere between the $6-$9 million range.

Yeah I think the city of San Antonio is living in the past with Manu. They forget when Manu isnt playing 100%, he's basically a turnover machine. He's the team leading scorer because we slow other teams down, his only real threat is now from beyond the arc. And if Manu is the Spurs leading scoring it should tell ya just how far behind we've become. I wouldnt trade him for the names in this thread. But there are alot of players in the NBA I would ship Manu in a heart beat for. Like the ones you mentioned.
