RPI; Haskins is from my hometown of Enid and was a fellow OSU alum.

Enid looks like the biggest shithole in all of America. This explains a lot.

I was a lot more impressed with it until I found out that the previous 2 champions had each started 4 black players and the one before them had started 3.

I'm not sure how pioneering it was. It wasn't viewed as that big of a deal at the time. It's more the movie 'glory road' and sportstalk guys today that make a huge deal of it.

More of it was the 1st full starting 5 against one of the biggest powers of the time and one of the biggest bigots in college sports history.

Other champions before them had blacks - in '55 USF had Bill Russell and KC Jones.
