Fillin' out the bench
Some deals I love. Some deals I hate. And with some deals, I just kind of shrug my shoulders and move on. Here are a few of them:
Fellow Wahoo Roger Mason signed a two-year, $7 million deal with San Antonio to be a sharpshooter off the bench. He will defend and be an upgrade over Jacque Vaughn as the backup point guard, but he's shot sharply in only one of his pro seasons thus far.
Michael Finley re-upped with San Antonio for two years and $5 million. He's fading, but he still can hit those Js and knows where to be on defense.

Hey, Finley knows where to be--he just can't get there anymore.

True. Cheering from the sidelines.

I'm quite happy to see Finley back.
At that stage of his career, Finley is a limited role player but he is still a valuable player for a contender.
With Horry gone, he will be even more valuable.

I'll be sure to bump this post when Pop has puts Finley in the starting lineup.

Spurs need more motion offense. i THINK finley can strive better in this kind of offense. maybe with Mason running point they can get finley more high percentage shots

So Spurs shouldn't have signed Finley because Pop has a mancrush on him ?
I guess Spurs FO should sign players that Pop hates. :rolleyes

5 Millions for Finley?
Cuban must have momentarily taken control of the Spurs FO.

John Nerd-inger was also the 'expert' that said the Spurs should sign Jackie Butler from the Knicks 2 seasons ago. That turned out well.:rolleyes
And if Finley starts for extended periods of the next season, we'll be in trouble. But as a 4th or 5th wing/swing man, he's not bad.

So they should just sign players Pop has a mancrush on? Latrell Sprewell come on down. Not to mention bumping the average age of the team up to 56.

If Finley will play this season the same way he plays last Playoffs...We will be alright until Manu comes back...

if he does that then we're screwed. finley really sucked in the playoffs last year except game 1 of the spurs/suns series. now if he played like he did in the 07 playoffs then ill feel safer.
btw, hollinger's an idiot if he thinks finley knows defense.

Where is this notion that Mason can play the point coming from?

Only time i remember him playing PG was with the Wiz last season and that was only because the Wizards had no choice with both Arenas and Daniels injured
