putting lipstick on a pig
A term used by many, generally in reference to someone who may be trying to make something or someone look appealing or attractive when it quite clearly will not work, or will only deceive the dumbest of people.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0908/An_awkward_moment_in_St_Louis.html?showall
Biden had an awkward moment during a rally in Columbia, Mo., Tuesday. At the start of his remarks, he pointed out several state lawmakers in the audience for praise. When he got to Chuck Graham, a state senator from Green Meadows, Biden urged the lawmaker to "stand up Chuck, let 'em see ya."
But Graham, who is in a wheelchair, can't stand up - a fact Biden quickly picked up on.

It's like my IPOD comparison, people are fascinated with Palin because she's new and people don't know her track record, except for what has been spun by the M$M spin-meisters, just like Obama at first, but soon all the gory little details come out, like her and her hubby's association to a Alaskan freedom party and her belief that abortion shouldn't be available for any woman, even in cases of incest or rape, or her obsessive views on the ties between religion and politics, of which Bush is her role model....unfortunately for the GOP, we still have plenty of time for women to flip-flop again...

shit...even his own camp can't keep this story straight...
Asked why she was so confident Obama was "comparing" Palin to a pig, she said Palin was the only one of the four candidates on both parties' tickets who wears lipstick.
"She is the only one of the four candidates for president, or the only vice presidential candidate who wears lipstick," Swift said. "I mean, it seemed to me a very gendered comment."
But, Swift added, if "as part of his apology Sen. Obama wants to say, no, he was calling Sen. McCain -- who is a true hero in our country -- a pig, then I suppose we could wait en masse for an apology to that, as well."
It was pointed out to Swift that, after the line about the pig, Obama had said, "You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called 'change,' it's still gonna stink after eight years."
Swift then suggested that Obama was calling McCain a fish.

Didn't McCain use the same line to describe Hillary's position on health care?
McCain criticized Democratic contenders for offering what he called costly universal health-care proposals that require too much government regulation. While he said he had not studied Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's plan, he said it was "eerily reminiscent" of the failed plan she offered as first lady in the 1990s.
"I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig," he said of her proposal.
My God! He didn't even have the decency to refer to Hillary as "her"...he use "it"! It was certainly no surprise when this turned into a huge story after it happened...oh, wait...

Obama's wife is going to take care of raising his kids.
Palin's husband works, she works. Who's taking care of their kids? They've clearly done a shitty job already since their teenage daughter is fucking pregnant. Is this who you want leading your Christian right movement? A woman who couldn't keep her own daughter from fucking before she was 18?

come on, man. this isn't a common problem. i'm not defending or condemning it. it's just what happens, but what is better. being pregnant or doing coke and smoking dope at 18 like obamessiah has confessed to? what does that say about his parents? and yes, i know they aren't running for president.....................but neither is palin.

you dumbfuck, Palin is running for VICE PRESIDENT. And her daughter JUST got pregnant, it's not like it happened when she was young and dumb.
This woman couldn't keep her underage daughter from FUCKING without a CONDOM. Is this who you want running your country? This woman?

"Shocked" is he?
really?
THAT choice of words, that obviously his audience thought was referring to Palin; and HE doesn't understand why anyone would question him?
How entitled to not be questioned does this junior senator think he is? Are we allowed to ask questions about him AFTER he is elected? To question his judgment or motives? Dude does think his shit don't stink, doesn't he? Condescending, arrogant, you name, he IS it.
Would have been better off to simply say, "The McCain camp has responded over the top, but I am sorry if anyone took offense".
Too big for that, I guess. Calling the media out for being Republican lackies might help; but it could backfire, as well.

Now you're going to blame this on Obama? lol. The McCain campaign got set up. They didn't have to respond the way they did. Obama threw out an old adage with the keyword "lipstick"...that's it. It doesn't matter how the crowd reacted. McCain's people could have let it go but instead they foolishly jumped all over that hook and Obama reeled them in :lol

Anyone who changes their vote based on this, or anything like this, is a complete tool.
Nobody is changing there vote because of this; but, IMO, if Obama continues to melt-down, have verbal hiccups (My Muslim Faith), etc...it will cost him with independents.
I mean, what are those people waiting to choose a side if not for stuff like this?
People who are deciding based on crap like this is EXACTLY why we get crap like this.

Almost.
While it's pretty clear to me that he wasn't calling Palin a pig, it was clear to me that his use of the figure of speech "lipstick on a pig" was a direct corrolation to Palin's lipstick mention during her RNC speech. The crowd reaction confirms that, IMO.
Either way, it's getting way to much run, and makes me hate politics even more.

Except he's used the term many times during the campaign trail and the phrase has been around LONG before Palin opened her yap at the convention.
I realize that much of the political world thinks Palin is the center of the universe, but she's not.

you're in denial Manny. Palin is the center of democrat attacks, and you know it. btw, it's fair ball game to attack her. However, it's no coincidence that the dems have used lipstick analogies such as, you can't cover her record with lipstick, to attack her.
The crowd interpreted what he said as an attack on Palin and to say otherwise is dishonest. McCain's attacks were over the top, but I can understand their oversenitivity based on all the over-the-top attacks on Palin.
We will see how it plays out, but Obama is now playing the victim which is a political strategy used by both parties.

McCain is right now riding on the coattails of Palin. She is the one who should really be running for office, not him. He has no personality or charisma and certainly could never carry a ticket on his own like Obama can.
And polls at this point are meaningless. Obama STILL HAS THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE LEAD, which is all that matters.

Well you shouldn't because this is the game of politics. It's not like the winner doesn't have to continue to play this game if he wants to actually accomplish anything.
Some words of wisdom from I guy I can't stand but have to admit he is a skilled politician...
"Suppose for example you're a voter. And you've got candidate X and candidate Y. Candidate X agrees with you on everything, but you don't think that person can deliver on anything. Candidate Y disagrees with you on half the issues, but you believe that on the other half, the candidate will be able to deliver. For whom would you vote?" - Bill Clinton

The "dumbass" brought up McCain was leading in the polls; which you claimed were meaningless.
THEN, you claimed Obama was leading in the Electoral College.
Have the electors been chosen already, or are they chosen ON ELECTION NIGHT?
That's right they are chose on election night after the votes are counted for the various states.
The ONLY way you can claim that Obama is leading in the electoral college is to be relying on..................POLLS!

In responding to someone who was making hay about McCain leading in the polls; which you disputed as being meaningless you said:
You do know there's something called the electoral college that decides who becomes President, don't you?
So either you lost that debate with a meaningless post, or you were claiming that you felt Obama would win in an electoral college showdown - which you MUST be basing your reasoning on polls.

Popular vote tells you who the president will be 95% of the times. nevertheless, I've seen a good swing in McCains favor in the electoral college. As been said here before, electoral college isn't as up to date as the popular.
But I'm not getting happy because we have a long ways to go.
