View Full Version : Could Michael Phelps play NBA hoop?

Fabbs

If he had started practicing and playing 4 years ago? For that matter if he started now in 1 2 3 years?

"Michael Phelps is between 187 pounds and 195 pounds with height of close to 6 foot 4-inch. He has big feet (US shoe size of 14), broad shoulders, large chest, long arms and his wing span is nearly 80 inches (about 3 to 4 inches longer than his height)."

Records still indicate that Michael Phelps is white, so unless he became a 3 point specialist the answer is no. It's the same the other way around, LeBron couldn't ever be a record breaking swimmer because we all know he can't swim.

That explains Timmy Duncans being Olympic potential swimmer before they closed the pool near his house?

The stereotype about black people not knowing how to swim isn't too far off from my experience both in high school and in the military. But the one about them not eating the cho cha? I ain't buying it.

Are you serious? Phelps has the legs of a 6'0" man and the torso of a 6'8" man, thereby making him a fucked up 6'4". It's conducive to swimming, but other than that he's a freak. This thread should be locked and you should be banned or suspended for a week for even suggesting this stupid idea.

6'8" wingspan and if you see no athletic potential in Phelps then your head is up your ass.

Also you have no, zero, none powers of mod so the thread will stand is spite of your whining and spouting.

His abnormally long wingspan would be fine if his legs weren't so abnormally short. Obviously, he's probably a good athlete, but you're a downright fool to think a guy built like Michael Phelps could play basketball at an NBA level.

Dude, the only Olympic sized pool on his island was destroyed by a hurricane. Makes it kind of hard to train.

if i'm not mistaken isn't there a whole ocean that surrounded duncan's homeland? well i guess it's pretty stupid to suggest he could practice swimming in the ocean since olympic swimmers don't compete in the ocean. oh well.

Maybe if you use a few more icons it will make you look even more spitey and lend an ounce of credibility to your post. Duncans potential Oly swimming has been posted plenty on ST. Here is but one, Numb nutts.

His mother Ione, who was his loudest supporter at every swim meet, lost her battle with breast cancer the day before Tim’s 14th birthday. Completely crushed, Tim never swam competitively again.

So he didn't quit swimming because of the pool, as the article also said practices were moved to the ocean. He quit cuz of his mother dying.

It was both. The pool got destroyed, as did the hospital his mother was getting treatment in. She died within months of the hurricane, Duncan never swam competitively again. To help him get through the grief of losing his biggest fan, his mom, (who died the day before his 14th birthday), his brother-in-law put a basketball in his hands and began teaching him the game.

I think he should try his hand at boxing. He's got crazy reach, and if Rocky III taught me anything it's that training in or near water is paramount to becoming a good fighter.

Since we're talking about athletes picking up another sport, and his name was mentioned in this thred, maybe you guys would like to hear that Bolt is going to train to become a soccer player.

Appearently he has already signed a contract for Real Madrid in Spain, and he will start practicing with them really soon. I don't how much this is a publicity stunt vs. a real opportunity for him to play with them (probably the first one) but he has said he is a huge supporter of the team.

I know. I'm sure glad we didn't draft Phelps 6 years ago or someone like Phelps. The thought of him locking down someone Bruce Bowen D style with his 6'8" wings is far too boring. It's so much more exciting awaiting 2000-2007s Euro Stravinkis cameo Spurs appearance along with riding the old vet/young wasted draft pick point guard in and out of the PopHouse merry-go-round.

Pour another half cup of regular in the decaff. It's balls out party time in Spursville. :hat

When was this game? Judging from the ball, shirt designs from adidas, and messi's number it's before 2008 right?
