“Pacers.com” reported Thursday that Indiana Pacers Team President Larry Bird has stated that point guard Jamaal Tinsley will not be with the Pacers for the upcoming season. Indiana now has an abundant number of point guards, starting with T.J. Ford who will most likely be the starter. Ford came over in the deal that sent Jermaine O’Neal to Toronto. Indiana also now has Jarret Jack whom they picked up on Draft night from Portland, as well as Travis Diener, who be going into his second year. Bird spoke with the team’s website earlier this week, and made it clear that Tinsley does not figure in the Pacers future. Bird said “We’re talking to some teams and hopefully before camp something can happen. Everybody thinks there’ll be a buyout or we’ll cut him or whatever but that’s not going to happen. We’re going to try to make a deal that’s good for both parties. Jamaal’s a good basketball player and he’d be very valuable to some team. It’s going to be a process and I knew that going into it.” Bird said he had spoken with Tinsley, and both parties agreed it was best for Tinsley to get a fresh start with another team.

The only way we are interested is if there is a buyout. IF there is, he would make a great pick up as a back up PG, but I think he could find a starting spot somewhere...

Any team that trades for Tinsley (unless if the move allows them to unload an even worse contract) or offers him more than the min. salary will be making a tremendous mistake.

The Pacers can't play him because they have to get their fans and sponsors back and they'll stay away as long as Tinsley dresses a Pacers jersey.

Contract status?

Per HoopsHype, 3 years remaining, $21.45 million.

$6,750,000

$7,200,000

$7,500,000

Tinsley was one of the worst troublemakers on that team, and that's saying a lot about any member of the Pacers. The Spurs will have zero interest.

Good luck to Bird trying to move a bad guy coupled with a bad contract that runs past the summer of 2010. I smell some sort of buyout if they really want him gone before training camp. The Pacers have zero leverage in any deals

Mangoo is an asshole. That selfish freak is now going to miss half of the season knowing damn well he had a very good chance getting hurt and in doing so hurting the Spews. Bruce is a asshole. A cheap shot asshole.

The Pacers are standing firm in their belief that G Jamaal Tinsley won't be wearing an Indiana uniform this season. The team, which has publicly said it's time to part ways with the injury-prone Tinsley, has taken down his nameplate inside the locker room at Conseco Fieldhouse. New point T.J. Ford is using Tinsley's old cubicle in the locker room.

The Pacers still haven't found a team to trade Tinsley to. Team officials say they have no intention of buying out the final three years Tinsley's contract. The Pacers plan to tell Tinsley to remain at home if they can't trade him by the start of training camp on Sept. 30.

How bad are things when you're making close to $7M and your team asks you to stay home, with pay, rather than report to training camp?

Tinsley's public image is trashed but he's still a very good player. Some team needing a point guard would take a chance on him.

At $7 million, it's going to be hard to get a trade, if he was cheaper, he'd be perfect for the Spurs since it's mostly vets on this team and he wouldn't be able to get out of line.

If he's cut, I don't doubt he'll be a contributor on a strong veteran team this year (ie. Spurs, Celtics, Suns). Lakers could trade Vladmir Radmanovic for Tinsley as well.

Man, people fall from grace quickly in Indiana. Must be something in the water. Jermaine O'Neal, Ron Artest, Stephen Jackson, now Jamaal Tinsley could all have been considered "franchise players in the past, yet are have all been kicked to the curb, one at a time.

Say what you want about Pop and R.C. but at least here is an example of why all the CIA stuff is a good idea.

Bird comes out and says Tinsley is gone for the above reasons. Why does anyone trade unless they are extremely desperate for a point guard. All the league has to do is sit around and wait for the buy out now.

When are they going to fire Bird?

They say organizations are defined from the top, and that's usually true. This franchise has been snake bitten since Bird re-signed O'Neal, then canned his mentor Isaiah. You pull that kind of shit, you're going to lose the respect of your clubhouse. Players don't like being patronized or treated like children.
