They deserve repect and played well enough that they could have beaten chelsea. It was a close game.

Roma is only slightly above being a no name team. I saw the game, they never threatened to beat Chelsea. They played well, but never threatened to win. They played for the 0-0 tie the whole game. They really only have one player that was capable of scoring (can't remember his name). Other than that no chance at all. Not good enough against a team as good as Chelsea.

Nope Chelsea has won the EPL in recent years and was in the CL Finals last year. But they were a no name team for most years I was a fan. Things have changed quickly though.

Slightly off topic: Has anyone wathed the trashing Barca gave to Athletico Madrid during the weekend? By the 10th minute mark it was 3:0, by 30th minute it was 5:1, then Barca stepped off the gas and it ended 6:1. And the most amazing part of it: it could have been a lot worse for Athletico, cause Barca missed a couple of really good chances, including a goal post by Iniesta.

...and that nice run by Messi who tried to flick it over Coupet, but instead went wide. Barca looked unstoppable, and Eto'o put his usual whiny bitch face when he was taken out for Henry.

AS Roma, Panathinaïkos, FC Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, FC Porto, Juventus Turin

2nd in their group:
Chelsea, Inter, Sporting, Atletico Madrid, Lyon, Arsenal, Villarreal, Real Madrid.

no surprises, all the best team are here ( except Pana instead of Werder)

That's the strongest group of 2nd place finishers that there's been in a while. Can't wait for the draw on Friday. Anyone know if they televise it? I'd imagine Deportes does if anything

Ranieri will always have a special place for me for elevating Chelsea to a world power. His coaching us into the Champions League was masterful and was one of the main reason Abramovich even considered buying Chelsea. Which is when the spending and the consistent winning began. But Ranieri has always been known as the tinker man and it will drive people crazy. This matchup was dominated by Drogba. When he's on top of his game he's one of the best forwards out there. Unstoppable with the long pass and a great defensive player. He's a force out there. With Anelka paired with him it makes him even that much more dangerous. Two dangerous forwards out there that have to be respected make a world of difference.

And in other news, pretty good stuff for us who live in the states next year regarding the Champions League. Bye bye ESPN

FSC wins U.S. TV rights to Champions League

NEW YORK (AP) - Fox Soccer Channel beat out ESPN for right to the European Champions League starting next season, adding the top club event to a lineup that already includes the English Premier League and Italy's Serie A.

FSC didn't make an immediate announcement, preferring to wait until documents were signed with the Union of European Football Associations. ESPN, which had held the rights since the 1994-95 season, confirmed the switch.

"We have been informed by UEFA that they are moving ahead with a new partner in the United States," ESPN said in a statement Monday. "We made a strong bid that we believe would have helped continue the year-to-year growth of the UEFA Champions League in the United States."

ESPN and ESPN2 are available in 98 million homes and have broadcast Champions League matches in high-definition this season, while FSC reaches 34 million households and has not yet started hi-def telecasts. Also, FSC allows many top Premier League games to be telecast by Setanta Sports, which is not available on many cable systems.

UEFA, European soccer's governing body, announced March 11 that Fox will replace ESPN as the Champions League pay broadcaster in Central and South America next season under a three-season agreement.

ESPN averaged 255,000 households for 27 telecasts last season. Manchester United's victory over Chelsea in last May's final was ESPN's most-watched Champions League telecast, with 798,000 homes and 1,097,000 viewers.

ESPN has rights to the 2010 and 2014 World Cups and U.S. national team games through 2014. It shares Major League Soccer rights with Fox and other networks.

* Fox will broadcast 31 live and 79 delayed matches on FSC next season.

* Sixteen games will air on Fox Sports Net on Tuesdays.

* The final from Madrid on May 22, 2010, will be on FX.

* Fox Sports en Espanol will broadcast 31 matches live and 63 on delay.

* Setanta will continue its U.S. coverage of the Champions League under a separate agreement with UEFA, and will televise 94 matches. Fox Soccer Channel will get the top picks.

* Fox Soccer Channel is considering using the international feed for commentators instead of their own

* Its coverage will start with the new playoff round on Aug. 18-19 and Aug. 25-26, 2009.

* FSC also plans to air pregame and highlights shows.

* Fox hopes that the addition of the Champions League coverage will “get the network positioned onto more broadly distributed tiers and packages.”

* Fox plans on adding HD telecasts by the end of this year.

Liverpool looked good in the beginning but after Chelsea's first goal they looked like shit. Essien dominated, Alex and Terry did a fine job on Torres after the goal, Drogba played well even though he missed a couple of easy ones, and Liverpool couldn't stop the corners. Henry playing vs Chelsea? It'd be a pretty big blow offensively for Barca if he didn't, considering they almost have to score once. Hopefully he plays

Barcelona Deny Henry Out Of Chelsea Encounter

Thierry Henry could play against Chelsea on Wednesday after the Blaugrana denied claims that he was out of action for a fortnight...

Barcelona have refuted reports that Thierry Henry is out of action for two weeks and stated that not only is he in the squad to face Chelsea, but he could play.

The Frenchman was the subject of claims that the knock on his knee that he suffered during the Blaugrana's historic win against Real Madrid would sideline him for two weeks.

Sport ran the story as their main lead, but have since been forced to retract it and replace the news with confirmation that Henry is travelling to London.

Marca state that sources from within Barcelona have told them he is not out for two weeks and will be monitored ahead of the game at Stamford Bridge before undergoing a late fitness test.

It is a sudden turnaround from the earlier statement, because while he was kept quiet in the first leg against Chelsea, Henry showed what he can do against Madrid three days later.

After netting two goals in a superb display in the Bernabeu, Henry's absence would have been sorely felt by the Catalan outfit, and there was talk that Andres Iniesta would move up to the left side of attack.

Allied with an injury to Rafa Marquez and the suspension of Carles Puyol, coach Pep Guardiola would have had to shuffle his squad even more if Henry had certainly been out.

This is what I'm talking about, after a great season you sudenly see your self playing an elimination game without 3 (or 4, 'cause you have to remeber that Milito is also injured) very important starters of your squad that could easily be the difference between getting eliminated or getting to the final.

Injuries are a factor, I agree, but it's not like Barca was able to score at home last week even with Henry.

Barca is by far the most exciting team to watch in football, but you can't deny the prestige of a three-peat in the Premier League and a repeat in Champions League, if Man Utd. is in fact able to accomplish this. There hasn't been a repeat champion in the CL for 20 years.

Oh well, the arsenal has a crapy midfield, they need a complete revamp in that area, Arshavin is a good start, but they need some good wingers and at least one more creator. Also more rotation of players, some players have hardly played all year and then they get suddenly pushed into the biggest games of the year because of injuries. Speaking of the pk, i'm not saying it wasn't or couldn't have been one, but did Rosetti have to give Fletcher a straight red on that tackle? I mean, he did touch the ball first... It sucks he won't be playing in the 2nd straight final

Adebayor's nasty challenge, on the other hand, deserved a straight red card. It came at about the 80th-85th minute (don't remember who he tackled), but it was a pre-meditated foot first tackle on the other player's ankle. It was right in front of the 4th official and yet nothing was done. It was obviously done out of frustration as well

- lampard his fkn shithouse, every fkn game thats an elimination match his nowhere to be seen...

while barca played like shithouse mainly cause alvaz had so much of the damn ball it got fkn boring....shouldve switch sides with iniesta imo cause he wasnt getting many touches.
- barca pique i felt that this guy couldve score at leasts 2 goals outside the box but off target....

They didn't play well at all in this match, but if you take into consideration the whole tournament I think it's fair that Barcelona is in the final.

2nd leg i felt chelsea was the dominant side.....

Chelsea was robbed that match

first half 45+3 extra time
2nd half 45+3+ extra time
seriously thats just too much extra time for a match 6minz+ altogether

drogba was shithouse, kept on diving...
messi was shut down for the whole match, while alvaz had alot of the ball for barca but played like crap...iniesta didnt even touch the ball that much of played in his area, but he scored when it mattered.

2 hand balls wasnt awarded to chelsea in the penalty box :(

i agree chelsea shouldve won it 5-0 the way they were playing all game.

Well let's not get carried away, they were lucky to score that goal at the begining of the game (Essien could try to repeat that shot for the rest of his life and I bet he won't be able to do it again) and then they took advantage of Barca's desesperation to create oportunities counterattacking. I'm pretty sure that if we look at ball possesion for the two game the numbers will be close to 80% to 20% in favour of the Spaniards.

i dunno how you can say that was a fluke goal man, he was there at the right time and right place to volley it in....all fkn volley shots are like that..either they go in or they dont. In this case it went in from the underside of the topbar.

chelsea countered so many times, but their fkn forwards kept on diving and pulling a hissy fit.

i dont care if ur playing with 10 or 9 men, you cant penalize the team playin with 11 men from handballs, penalty shots....its just stupid....the calls from the refs were consistent with the divings, but when it was clearly handballs he didnt call it...but in previous rounds they wouldve called it.

It was a great goal, but 9.999 out of 1.000 that ball ends up on the stands.

I didn't say anything about the ref, it's true that there were two penalties for Chelseas that the ref didn't called but is also true that that red card on Abidal was really iffy.

Well, I think there was only one situation where there maybe should have been a penalty, which was the one in injury time with Ballack's shot that hit Eto'o's arm.
Tough luck for Chelsea, but they could have advanced if Drogba had taken care of his chances rather than diving and lying on the ground complaining like a pre-schol child.

Anyway, I like Barca and I'm glad they made it to the finals.

This could be a massive loss for the Spaniards.
