View Full Version : Hey ladies could use a little help with gift suggestions...

I'm trying to get a birthday gift for my girlfriend and am having a little trouble finding something to get her.

Shes an 8th grade middle school math teacher, and head of the math department, but she is a little different in her fashion sense. She streaks her hair three different ways and says her style is sometimes traditional, but likes to do a "rocker chick" kinda thing sometimes too.

Just wondering what some good clothing sights that match those, and what are some good gift ideas?

Shes a really special woman to me, and you ladies here that do your fashion threads are very very intelligent and I will take all suggestions into consideration and will definately keep an open mind about things.

Thanks ladies :)

Do you know that she likes receiving clothes as a gift? I hate it, personally, and know a lot of other people who feel the same way.

If she's really into math, this is one of the best books ever written on the subject (especially if she likes calc). I cannot stress the really part enough though, as this is a very heavy duty analysis text, but it's unquestionably the best I've ever read.

Just spend a ton of money on her.

can't do that, gotta have some meaning and thought behind it.

I'm consulting women though, because I'm not arrogant to think that i know everything on what it takes to give a great gift to a woman.

If it's a gift card than why do you need suggestions? Find out where she buys her clothes and get her a card from there.

Well shes held off on anywhere for a while because she bought a house and is trying to make her current stuff kinda stretch out so to speak.

Also, i just thought someone might have some website suggestions for what I was describing for what she likes.

What does she like other than clothes? Does she have a hobby? Is there anything she has especially mentioned wanting to try- a restuarant, play, concert?

I'd bet many of her blouses are Claibornes.

If she's into football go with the Aggies suggestion, but if she's, y'know, all girly and shit, go with some roses dipped in expensive molten metal.

I've been with my husband for about 24 years now and the best gift he ever gave me was my beloved iPhone.

I wouldn't want clothes and IMO getting a gift card from my husband or boyfriend (if I had one) would seem a little impersonal.

I asked her if she wanted an iphone, she has service with ATT and she has a discount thanks to be a civil servant or something like that, 20% and that goes away if she uses an iPhone.

Great minds think alike Shelly though, thanks :)

I had the 16GB white one all picked out too :(

They have this ring that is edgy yet still really fashionable. Plus I also love there jewelry as well!!! Here is the site. just go to the online shop at the top and start your fun looking through everything. they have alot of "rock, edgy" looking pieces that are still fun and flirty!!! Hope it helps!!!

Actually I take that back. I guess it depends how long you two have been together as well. A gift card is cool, but like Shelly said that is a little impersonal...... which I agree with. I don't know, I always try and buy my g/f's jewelry and end up getting something the salesperson likes but the girl doesn't....:lol But you said she is into sports, aww man thats easy right there...... I would actually have fun picking out her gift.....:lol

If you are looking for clothes and she's into the slightly "rocker" style, get her a pair of short ankle boots that are studded. These types of booties are very in right now. If you don't like the studded styles, any type of patent leather booties (especially croc-embossed) are good choices. Other shoes you might consider are high-heeled suede oxfords - a menswear inspired look that's very hot this season.

For clothes, things that are cute right now are very ruffled romantic blouses (might not be her style), boyfriend cardigans (cashmere cardigan sweaters that are long and slouchy) and anything that's purple.

For jewelry, if you aren't ready to buy her an engagment ring, maybe a right hand ring that is amethyst (again because it's purple and that's in). Other types of jewelry that are cool - anything onyx (good edgy choice), butterfly jewelry, thick cuff bracelets and cocktail rings.

Search around online and show me pictures of what you like on IM and I'll tell you if it's cute or not. :lmao (As if my opinion is the deciding factor.)

A bit extravagant for a chick you've only known for a month. Just sayin...

Smartest thing this guy has ever posted. Gotta be very, very careful not to come off needy and clingy here with a girl you've only been seeing a month. Keep it understated and lots of fun, and for god sakes don't over do it. Over doing the romantic, nice guy stuff will get you broken up with extremely fast. Romance is the spice not the substance.

Just saw this, but this woman speaks the truth. Always avoid anything that could be construed as desperate or needy. Don't try to buy her interest just accept that she's interested and go with it.

Met last year during a cowboys game in the bar at a buffalow wild wings

there were no more of the tall stool like tables, and her and her friend wanted a table, me and my buddy agreed to share it.

We were friends ever since then and then about end of july i finally realized she liked me, she said she had been sending messages since like February :lol

Get a job you worthless punk!

and many more TParks greatest hits then she must really be desperate to find a person to hang out with. Not to mention the 100s of GTG pics of you eating all the food. You said you met her at Buffalo wild wings? Has it ever occurred to you she might work for them as a person they send out to try and get certain customers to stop eating all the wings?

Come on TPark! Think!! What girl under 300lbs and 20/20 vision would want any part of your Funnel cake smelling ass?

Did you check to see if she is maybe a he? Did you do a package check?
Did you hear the seat go up when she was taking a piss standing up?

These are questions no one here has the balls to ask you. But some of us here are really looking out for you Brah! :tu

You can try your best and act like your this nice polite person that only comes to ST to catch up on the Spurs but she can go back a few pages and see the real Tpark the man with a short fuse and a bad temper, a man that brags about every thing he buys every trip he takes and belittles others in the process with personal attacks.

Just FYI Everyone,

I'm buying my girlfriend a gift card to a clothing store of her choice.

Now for the point of this thread...

I have a new girlfriend!

She's a math teacher. Head of the department actually.

She's wild. She streaks her hair 3 different colors but she can has a traditional style for such a rock chic!

She's a University graduate as well...A&M...she's a huge sports fan too! Did i mention she graduated from A&M?

Yeah...she just bought her own house too.

She's pretty hot too...and we are going to goto all the Aggie football games and makeout on national tv.

i had an expensive phone all picked out for her upcoming birthday, but nah.

I don't think T-Park wants to go that far......:lol A $400 phone?? Please!!

400? pffft...

dude, my bankroll makes cosmic say dayyyum. i lend Jim money.

i'm tpark bitch!

anyhow, here's a pic. yeah, choke on that Angel, i'm gettin some too!

and she has CAKE!!!

http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v22/207/53/8328288/n8328288_32572816_7325.jpg

yeah, we've been going steady for quite a while now...i met her way back in august.

we're gonna get married...i'm saving up for her ring already!

i really pamper the woman, is what i do.
she's relaxing at the dayspa at cantera as we type.

i might get her a laptop for christmas, loaded of course, she might be the one after all!

of course, i did just buy her a Kathy Van Zeeland tote earlier today that she mentioned to me on the phone she saw that she loved.

A bit extravagant for a chick you've only known for a month. Just sayin...

Sooo... you got her a bag, you're getting her a spa day, you've only been with her since August, AND you're asking around about getting her something else?

uhm...actually we've been soul mates for much longer...since November of last year! but i just found out in August that she wants to get paid by a sugar daddy!

but yeah, she works out a lot too.
i get tired just smelling her sweat soaked undergarments.

we'll be going to a bed and breakfast in November. I've missed her so much since may even though we only got together in august.

I am probably the only woman who would ever say this- but don't go too overboard- like you are buying her affection in anyway. Make sure the gift is appropriate.

do you know who the hell i am?

Gotta be very, very careful not to come off needy and clingy here with a girl you've only been seeing a month. Keep it understated and lots of fun, and for god sakes don't over do it. Over doing the romantic, nice guy stuff will get you broken up with extremely fast. Romance is the spice not the substance.

i said do you know who the hell i am?

anyhow, she's pretty cool and she's very cool with my career. She seems almost ecstatic that she only has to see me a couple times a year and still gets the perks. strange, but oh well.

my only mistake so far has been showing her the forum. it's really only a matter of time now til she finds out about me. i mean, she knows i have the loot, but you know, the real me.

This is great news for T Park ! I am excited to see him maybe start a family. :)

it's exciting. she might actually let me touch her bra strap next year, depending on her Christmas haul.

this woman has me break dancing, i gotta tell you.

You better switch from arrows to harpoons. just a heads up! :)

Take her to an Aggies football game- you're suppose to kiss your S.O. every time the aggies score a touchdown.

Fun for both of you. :)

I've never seen little m get so worked up about something that has nothing to do with him. Methinks Tpark's happiness struck a jealously cord.

PS TBone - remember she'll have to buy you a gift one day too. Don't set the bar too high on the first go round for the sake of both of you.

My BacktoBasics advice: hold it under $4,000 because I know you're thinking about pulling a price is right on her ass and saying, "your first prize is a broyhill blender and then how about A NEW CAR!!!"

Good luck, Tpark.

As long as you put thought into what you get her then you'll be fine. Don't get her too many things either, IMO. I think its pretty weak to give gifts all the time. Thats a personal belief, but I think that a less frequent well thought out gifts mean much more than a constant barrage of generic stuff.

I think BB has an awesome gift idea, btw. The math book is awesome. I also like Shelly's tote idea.

If she's really into math, this is one of the best books ever written on the subject (especially if she likes calc). I cannot stress the really part enough though, as this is a very heavy duty analysis text, but it's unquestionably the best I've ever read.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/410G100DBGL._SL500_BO2,204,203,200_PIlitb-dp-500-arrow,TopRight,45,-64_OU01_AA240_SH20_.jpg

I'll echo the book suggestion - I've gotten some amazing book gifts over the years. They can be just as personalized/specialized as anything without the worry of clothing sizing, etc., and a really nice book is something that people won't necessarily buy or look for themselves - leatherbound, or first editions ...

Granted, this is coming from someone in a library science program, but I've never seen anyone not appreciate a really thoughtful gift like that.

Yeah I'm gonna go with the tote and a couple other small things.

The other big things suggested, I've ordered and they will be delivered soon and will be Christmas Presents.

We won't be able to do much on my birthday due to my job, but when I get bak home we will be able to take that trip to Turks for the wedding.

Thanks again for everything guys :)

No problem

You don't want to listen but I need to add that to me the gifts are bit of a BS.
You are not with the other person for the gifts.

All my life I did not care much about things I gonna get. I do not like getting gifts for few reasons.

All in all she is gonna be happy with anything you gonna give her with good intentions.

TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART (Bonnie Tyler )

Turnaround, every now and then I get a
little bit lonely and you're never coming around
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit terrified and then I see the look in your eyes
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart

Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit restless and I dream of something wild
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit helpless and I'm lying like a child in your arms
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit angry and I know I've got to get out and cry
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit terrified but then I see the look in your eyes
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you'll only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
Cause we'll never be wrong together
We can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight

Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart

Turnaround bright eyes
Turnaround bright eyes
Turnaround, every now and then I know
you'll never be the boy you always you wanted to be
Turnaround, every now and then I know
you'll always be the only boy who wanted me the way that I am
Turnaround, every now and then I know
there's no one in the universe as magical and wonderous as you
Turnaround, every now and then I know
there's nothing any better and there's nothing I just wouldn't do
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you'll only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
Cause we'll never be wrong together
We can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight

There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart
