The answer is, they aren't Rich. It's only patriotic if Rich people (meaning people who make more than $250,000) pay more taxes; everybody else has gotten the shaft - and cannot afford another penny.

Paying taxes IS technically patriotic, otherwise the govt wouldn't make you pay up.

Biden's gaffes don't matter much, the press corp likes him and knows that he is a blowhard that thinks out loud. The Obama campaign can pretty much explain away what he says as "Joe being Joe."
