Pistons Excited About Kwame's Potential

Sep 19, 2008 4:06 PM EST
The Pistons coaching staff is excited about the potential of Kwame Brown heading into his first season with the team, according to Detroit News.

"I've been studying big men in this league since 1970 and I am going to tell you this, Kwame Brown, at his size, moves faster and with more control than any other guy that size that I can remember," assistant coach Dave Cowens said.

Detroit is hoping Brown will excel in a less-pressurized environment.

"He's been really good," Curry said. "If the kid was not the first pick in the draft, I wonder what everybody would say about him? I have a list of guys who make $6 million, $7 million a year who haven't done nearly as much as he's done in this league and we got this kid for $4 million."

Translation: Kwame sucks. We hope positive messages can make him at least not be a bitch over the fact he sucks so bad.

The fact is Kwame doesn't suck. Kwame sucks because
1) He was the #1 draft pick
2) Lakers tried to make an offensive player out of him
3) He was getting paid $9 million

If you use Kwame only as a defensive role-player, he's actually a good defender. On offense, he can set picks and pick up the garbage points.

For $4 million, he's a steal.

Shit, Kwame's got baggage, but you think his stuff is weak? Wait until that Greek team finds out Josh Childress ain't worth the $20 million :D

If you were 6'11, you could be making REAL baller money like these overpaid dudes:

Malik Rose $7.6 million
Zach Randolph $14.7 million
Drew Gooden $7.1 million
Rasho Nesterovic $8.5 million
Jeff Foster $6.1 million

And the King Ballers of them all
Stephon Marbury $21 million
Jermaine O' Neal $21 million
Steve France $19.8 million

Weren't they excited about Nazr's too?

JamStone

Yeah, I would assume so. Just like every team that signs a player they expect to be part of the rotation. Just like Dwyane Wade and the Heat were super excited about adding Ricky Davis. Or just like Denver when they signed Chucky Atkins. Or just like Mark Cuban and Dirk Nowitkzi when the Mavs traded for Jason Kidd. Or just like the Spurs when they signed Nick Van Exel.

Excited. Happy. Impressed. Optimistic. Fortunate. Whatever other bullshit descriptions. They'd be fools to say they settled for a shit player because they couldn't get the 20 guys they'd rather have than him.

How can a 7-year NBA veteran still be considered to have 'potential'?

Yeah, but I'm sure that's what the Blizzards (Bullets), Fakers and Grizz were saying too.

The word potential is something that schmos like Kwame never shed during their whole careers because they never reach it.

O.K. who on the Pistons is going to make him cry. Kwame is just not a tough player and even if he only plays defense do you think he would step in front of Stephen Jackson going to the rim? Do you think he could stop the Coyote going to the rim?

The problem is that the article leaves out the picture. At the time, Dave Cowens had his head in a table vise, and Joe Dumars was cranking it down. Poor Dave wasn't even able to make a fist later, much less remember the young Lew Alcindor.

Dave Cowens probably lost all his memory, because I am sure he had seen Jabbar, Wilt, Russell, Robinson, Hakeem and Shaq.

But hey, at least we are talking about Kwame with reference to the all time greats for once without mentioning him crying.
