Boston's Miles Suspended For 10 Games

Sep 19, 2008 4:35 PM EST
The NBA announced Friday that Darius Miles of the Boston Celtics has been suspended without pay for 10 games for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program at the end of the 2007-08 NBA season.

His violation of the program involved phentermine.

Miles’ suspension will begin with the first game of the 2008-09 NBA regular season for which he is eligible and physically able to play.

Yah, this is back-pay on Darius Miles, he got waived before he ever served time so now it's coming into effect.

The Blazers can breathe easier for 10 more extra games.

The Blazers probably narked on him to keep him off the court for a bit longer. :lol

Phentermine, a contraction for "phenyl-tertiary-butylamine", is an appetite suppressant of the amphetamine and phenethylamine class.

It is approved as an appetite suppressant to help reduce weight in obese patients when used short-term and combined with exercise, diet, and behavioral modification. It is typically prescribed for individuals who are at increased medical risk because of their weight and works by helping to release certain chemicals in the brain that control appetite.

Suspension puts Darius Miles further away (http://news.bostonherald.com/sports/basketball/celtics/view/2008_09_20_Suspension_puts_Darius_Miles_further_aw ay/srvc=home&position=recent)

WASHINGTON - In a move anticipated by the Celtics, the NBA announced yesterday it was suspending Darius Miles for the first 10 games of the season.

The forward had tested positive for a banned substance - the diet drug phentermine - last spring.

“We knew that this was out there,” director of basketball operations Danny Ainge said. “We did our own checking on it.”

Miles, who signed a non-guaranteed contract with the C’s over the summer, was with the Portland Blazers last season and is attempting to come back from chronic knee trouble.

I thought they already announced a few months ago?

I'm pretty sure this was mentioned earlier in the Summer. I don't know why they're barely releasing it now.
