I know there's alot of mudslinging and partisan rhetoric going around right now, but I got to thinking....

Shouldn't the next four years be better than the last eight....regardless of who wins in November?

Personally, I think it'll be tough to take this country further south than it has gone in recent years and look to this election with a general optimism.

So I thought I would take a break from the typical negativity this forum is rife with and pose the question to others....

Do you think the next four years will be better than the last eight, irrespective of who is President during that term?

Either candidate should be a big improvement on what we have now, but it's hard to say if things will improve. Whoever wins will have a lot of cleaning up to do and, as much as I hate to say it, the way things look right now, it could get much worse before we start to turn the corner.

Hopefully I'm wrong and we are already at or near a low point, but my gut is telling me otherwise.

No. They will be worse regardless of who wins.

The economy will continue to be a problem even if these bailouts provide temporary relief.

Iran will be a major problem continuing forward with nuclear, plus americans will insist the troops get out of Iraq due to our economic woes. So Iran will impose itself on the weak Iraqi government. Israel at some point will say fuck it and take action against Iran.

Europe's economy is in the tank as bad as ours. Britains is considerably worse than ours right now. Historically, europe tends to start really big wars with each other when their economies suck.

Russia smells weakness and has already begun making moves.

Doesn't look so bright to me. That's why part of me does hope Obama wins. Then in 2012 I can blame it all on him and say President Palin is the answer to all the worlds problems. And then finally after waiting my whole life for it, we will have a PILF.
