I was fortunate to be invited out by a running buddy of mine for a dove hunt at the 777 in Hondo.

The birds were phenomenal, my shooting was atrocious (2-1/2 boxes for a stinking 12 bird limit) and the steaks and beer afterwards was top shelf.

Took my birds tonight and deep fried them breaded in egg/milk/flour, made a batch of scratch cream gravy, mixed some corn and Ro-Tel and steamed some rice.

Damn it's good to live in South Texas.

"Running Buddy" is a South Texas/Texas slang term for a good friend.

"Running buddy" is hardly local to South Texas.

And it's pretty funny that somebody from Portland who works for Nike has never heard of it.

you've obviously never eaten dove. and there is not much trouble to go through, unless you hate shooting guns, drinking beer, and being one with nature.

Well... it's more trouble than going to the butcher and buying a chicken breast. I do hate drinking beer, though.

but i see what you're saying... the hunting/shooting is as enjoyable as the eating though... kind of like how it;s more enjoyable to catch the fish yourself rather than going to Grocery Store and getting talapia filets
