What if (please note this is purely hypothetical), if the Spurs were to be able to get a hold of Shawn Marion in mid-season if things aren't working out with the Heat. Seems like there is some drama over in Miami, and was just wondering what your thoughts would be on it.

Personally, I think that he is mature enough and will fit rather well with the Spurs. I think being in the right environment would curb his attitude, not to mention being a key player on a championship caliber team again.

In short, what do you think his impact would be?

He's definitely one of those guys who has gotten over himself so I think there is a really great shot we go after him.

Have you run the numbers on his existing contract and who the Spurs have to make the trade work? Now, after you do that...since you have some time to spare....ask yourself, would the Heat want the Spurs' tradeable assets?

I am very confident we could work something out involving Bonner and other valuable assets.

He was pissy about being regarded as the third option in an offense that was scoring well over 100 pts/game. He'd be option #4 here. Athletically he'd be a dream come true as a small ball PF, but what I know of him as a locker room presence he doesn't sound like the usual guy the Spurs would target.

I am not the Heat. Who knows what they are thinking lol!!! This thread is purely hypothetical. I do not know what it would take for the Spurs to get Marion. I do not know where to look for that kind of information. I am still new at this stuff and am looking to become "enlightened".

After watching the Spurs for a while, it seems that Pop's offensive system doesn't really have any particular order on who takes the shots. I mean I am pretty sure that if it were more controlled, Pop would have taken Manu out of the LA series for jacking up so many ill advised, contested 3 pointers while the Lakers were making their push. Man that was killing me.

Nah what was worse was. Not being able to stop anyone downlow. No defense is so unSpurs like.

I am inclined to believe that was a crucial factor too dont get me wrong, but Manu's poor shot selection so early in the shot clock made it that much worse. If he could have kept his trigger in check, the Spurs could have easily maintained the lead and won out even with their defense being suspect.

I can't stand Marion's shooting mechanics. The worst part about facing Phoenix was having to watch him. I was really happy when the Suns moved him to Miami.

Manu was the best player for the Lakers in some of those WCF games.

As for Marion, he was the highest paid member of the Suns and still crying about not being "the man". I don't think he'll accept being the 4th fiddle on the Spurs.

maybe a few more years down the line when he can fill a veteran role playing position for less money. wouldn't invest in him to be any kind of major contributor over td, gino, or tp.

he'd hopefully be just about done with any locker room antics at a later point, and maybe his defense and shooting wouldn't diminish too much.

as a side note i also like sheed in this scenario.

Seriously, pose a mid-season trade that would absorb the remainder of Shawn Marion's $17.8mil contract that would HELP the Spurs. And I'm not just talking financially, but on the court as well.

He generally plays the small forward, so I'm assuming we're "upgrading" with Marion for a half-season from Bowen. Bowen is set to make about $4mil next season.

So, we trade Bowen...that's leaves us roughly $12.5+ in salary that the Spurs still need to give to Miami in exchange for a half-season of Marion. Who are you gonna trade? Bonner? Ok....now you're at about $10mil. Vaughn? Ok....9....

So, to get Marion, we'll trade EVERYONE that's not #9, #20 or #21 to get a third scoring option.

Sorry to sound mean in my last post. I just don't see it happening.

Marion is the anti-Spur. Self absorbed, selfish, arrogant, petty, emo, childish and doesn't care about winning.

No thanks.

He's definitely one of those guys who has gotten over himself so I think there is a really great shot we go after him.

What? He is most certainly NOT over himself. He was on a WC contender, and all he could do was bitch about being the 3rd or 4th option. He wrote his own ticket out of town.

Marion is one of the most selfish, immature players in the league.

Well, you got off on the wrong foot by listing Bonner as a "tradeable asset..."

Marion began his college career up the road at Vincennes University, a junior college. (More accurately, a shitty Indiana junior college.) He wasn't even their best player. I am hardpressed to this day to figure out how someone who is short for his position and can't create his own shot stuck in the NBA.

i think you have to mention who were giving up. if he is somehow bought out blah blah blah and he joins our team then i think were going to the finals. if we have to trade enough players to match salary (TP or Manu) then i think were back tracking.

I think he will be perfect for SF..he is an underrated defensive player. I watched alot of his games to come up with such conclusion. However he also got locker room problems, just like a little kid wanting to be a man. He is good offensively, and no doubt he will be perfect to add Spurs Big 3. Question here is not whether he is useful or not, but actually can we get him? (the answer is no)

I dont think Miami is dumb enough to take our "tradeable" assets. But if Grizzliez dumb like a stupid bitch by giving away Gasol for almost nothing...why cant Heat make same mistake?? :danceclub
