View Full Version : How Is Palin Doing?

Take this with a grain of salt because it's from DailyKos but it's still a fun read

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/9/26/81617/1783/155/611072

Some highlights:

Breaking News from Big Eddie:
McCain Camp insiders say Palin "clueless"
Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people are more than concerned about Palin. The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as "disastrous." One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, "What are we going to do?" The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is "clueless."

But talk show host Ed Shultz has published on his website, that Capitol Hill sources are reporting that McCain insiders are scared shitless of Palin's upcoming debate (or shriek) holding a press conference, and would love to skip the VP debate if they could all together.

There is growing evidence, unfortunately, that there may be some truth to these reports. Palin is gonna have to prove them wrong, if she is able. If she is, in fact, clueless, she should quit now, before she does damage to her EXISTING job.

Either way, if she is as described here, McCain is cooked, as he should be. You don't get a mulligan on the VP choice.

Can she at this point without destroying McCain's campaign? It would just show that people's concerns about the choice itself were warranted. I dunno. It's lose-lose for Palin right now if the campaign aides are really this worried.

Unfortunately, I don't think politicians are known for admitting mistakes. That interview she did and the tour of New York were very bad. Can you imagine her handling this crisis right now?! :wow Its a very sad situation we have here with our choices in this election.

Palin Problem
She’s out of her league.

By Kathleen Parker

. . . .

Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.

No one hates saying that more than I do. Like so many women, I’ve been pulling for Palin, wishing her the best, hoping she will perform brilliantly. I’ve also noticed that I watch her interviews with the held breath of an anxious parent, my finger poised over the mute button in case it gets too painful. Unfortunately, it often does. My cringe reflex is exhausted.

Palin filibusters. She repeats words, filling space with deadwood. Cut the verbiage and there’s not much content there. Here’s but one example of many from her interview with Hannity: “Well, there is a danger in allowing some obsessive partisanship to get into the issue that we’re talking about today. And that’s something that John McCain, too, his track record, proving that he can work both sides of the aisle, he can surpass the partisanship that must be surpassed to deal with an issue like this.”

When Couric pointed to polls showing that the financial crisis had boosted Obama’s numbers, Palin blustered wordily: “I’m not looking at poll numbers. What I think Americans at the end of the day are going to be able to go back and look at track records and see who’s more apt to be talking about solutions and wishing for and hoping for solutions for some opportunity to change, and who’s actually done it?”

If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself.

If Palin were a man, we’d all be guffawing, just as we do every time Joe Biden tickles the back of his throat with his toes. But because she’s a woman — and the first ever on a Republican presidential ticket — we are reluctant to say what is painfully true.

What to do?

McCain can’t repudiate his choice for running mate. He not only risks the wrath of the GOP’s unforgiving base, but he invites others to second-guess his executive decision-making ability. Barack Obama faces the same problem with Biden.

Only Palin can save McCain, her party, and the country she loves. She can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first.

Do it for your country.

a religious-conservative blogger who frequently appears on Fox News and was as recently as last week a Palin supporter, says the Alaskan Governor "was mediocre". Dreher says he felt "embarrassed" listening to Palin "regurgitating talking points mechanically, not thinking. [She’s] just babbling. She makes George W. Bush sound like Cicero."

This must be like a bad dream for republicans.

It was like 2 weeks after the Dem convention I think. The problem was that it made McGovern look like he didn't know how to govern. They're stuck with her - he loses the evangelical vote if he ditches her, she drags down the ticket if she stays on it.

Bet you McCain cries himself to sleep at night thinking of this man:

Sarah Palin’s Latest Interview Is Making People Sad
9/26/08 at 12:00 PM 3Comments

The mood over Sarah Palin is changing. Her political naysayers used to delight in her floundering her way through interviews (okay, that one interview with Charlie Gibson). They enjoyed pointing out her lack of credentials. But her interview with Katie Couric over the past two nights has elicited a different response — like cringing. No longer is there joy in Palin's struggles. Watching her has become like watching one of those hopeless singers trying out for American Idol: First you laugh. Then you laugh some more. Maybe after that you laugh a little bit more. And as the talentless contestant soldiers on, despite the judges' derision, you recognize that this person, despite their best efforts, doesn't even realize that they don't have what it takes. And that makes you kind of sad.

I heard the main reason he didn't want to pick Romney was because he knew the Dems would run ads showing clips of Romney criticizing him during the GOP primary. Like running those old Biden clips attacking the current nominee has hurt Billie Dee Obama.

Here's her experience: Texas State Treasurer and 2+ terms in the US Senate.

Or, let's go with this one:

Here's her experience:

Deputy Assistant to President Nixon for Consumer Affairs
Secretary of Transportation from 1983 to 1987 under Ronald Reagan
United States Secretary of Labor from 1989 to 1990 under George H. W. Bush

Neither one would kill his "experience" argument against Obama.

Palin is a horrible pick, a religious nutjob who is about as ignorant as they come on the issues facing America.

The fact that McCain is 72 and a 4 time cancer patient and has Sarah Palin in line if he dies will force me to vote for Obama.

Palin entered the bar after the press pool was pre-positioned in the rear of the venue. Donning a red Phillies jacket that was purchased for her earlier in the day, Palin came in to a loud roar, and the bar quickly descended into a mob scene. She was dressed casually, wearing jeans, a brown leather belt with a leopard-print buckle, and a white t-shirt underneath the Phillies jacket that read "Sarahcuda."

She actually wears a t-shirt that says "Sarahcuda"? :lmao

From the press release:

She's a self-described "hockey mom" going for the second highest office in the United States (though clearly less powerful than many positions in government).

While I admire the stands she's taken against corruption and how she worked to reduce spending, her image is still the reason why she was picked.

Palin Contradicts McCain On Pakistan, Seems To Back Obama’s Position

"Sarah Palin told a customer at a Philadelphia restaurant on Saturday that the United States should “absolutely” launch cross-border attacks from Afghanistan into Pakistan in the event that it becomes necessary to “stop the terrorists from coming any further in,” a comment similar to the one John McCain condemned Barack Obama for making during last night’s presidential debate."
