Sorry if that seems classless, but it's personal.

Looks like Citigroup might be acquiring them.

WaMu was a nasty company if you had one of their credit cards. Wife did, but we paid it off pretty quickly after they attempted to rape us on the interest charges.
"Here's this wonderful introductory rate..."
"oh, by the way, that transfer was at the cash advance rate of 31% and not the regular purchase rate".
Fuckers.
We are really paying down our debt as fast as possible, and not a moment too soon it seems.

WaMu was a nasty company...
Picked this up on the internet tubes...
Question: What was WaMu’s slogan again?
Answer: A different way of banking (see video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfmJWYJFYfk)). “If those stodgy old bankers think an idea is wrong, we know it’s right” (see video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJ7EIKbnnkw&NR=1)). The stodgiest and oldest bank (http://money.aol.com/news/articles/_a/bbdp/jpmorgan-takes-over-washington-mutual/188445) just ate WaMu for lunch. Greed is good.

WaMu is the worst on credit cards other than maybe Debt Cancellation Inc er...I mean Your bill is due 3 days before we say it's due Inc. er...I mean HSBC.
But Wamu actually gives you some pretty good deals on checking accounts.
Wachovia is just the opposite...they actually have some of the best deals on credit cards but they are the fee and nightly accounting nazis to end all fee and nightly accounting nazis in their checking accounts.
I just cancelled my checking account and my credit card(which hurt) with them about 2 months ago and cursed them into bankruptcy as I was walking out the door...I told those fuckers they would rue the day they gouged me.
I knew they'd be one of the first to fall...because it takes a lot to piss me off bad enough to cancel my best credit card.

Yeah, WaMu was great for depositors. It will be difficult to find similar interest rates locally. From what I know, Chase is another bank that runs largely on the fees it charges to depositors. I am unsure if they are able to change the terms of CDs made by WaMu, but these guys probably won't be holding my money for long.

If you're just going to put it into CDs just look into some of the online banks, IMO.

I was talking more about liquid accounts. I like depositing at brick and mortar places when I have some extra cash. Just a cursory glance shows a few close to me. I'll check in earnest when Chase lowers the boom.
