Not my place to forgive him for that.
Just pointing out he let her drown for political reason and never, ever, ever showed any remorse for it.
I pray God redeems his soul but, I'm not going to throw platitudes at the man just because he's dying. We're all dying.

He didn't "let her drown" for political reasons. He didn't report it for political reasons. He says he tried to get her out and if you don't believe him then you're just a cynical asshole. But we kinda already knew that.

There's evidence there was enough air trapped in the vehicle for Mary Jo Kopeckne to have lived quit a long time...long enough for Kennedy to call for held and possibly rescue her.

- Inquest Exhibit # 14 -
- Sketch of Mary Jo Kopechne's position in the accident car prepared under the direction of scuba diver John Farrar.
- Farrar believed that the car initially contained a large pocket of trapped air, represented by the original water level.

Link? I'd like to see how much he "believed" there was a pocket of air.

I think the scuba diver testified at inquest that there could have been as much as two hours of air.

Hell I was on the steps of the capital building and got to shake his hand and was photographed.

key graf:
A diver was sent down and discovered Kopechne’s body. At the inquest, the diver, John Farrar, testified that Kopechne’s body was pressed up in the car in the spot where an air bubble had been presumably formed. The inquest said the bubble could have allowed her to breathe for two hours afer the accident. Farrar testified: “Had I received a call within five to ten minutes of trhe accident…and was able as I was the following morning to be at the victim’s side within 25 minutes of receiving the call…there is a strong possibility that she would have been alive on removal from the submerged car.” Kennedy’s dithering, cowardice and emotional paralysis…fear of political retribution…led to the stall, most say.

How could he possibly know? When he found the car it was full of water. Is he basing these thoughts on her position when she was found?

Point is, Kennedy might have saved her life if he had called for help. He decided his political career was more important than Mary Jo Kopeckne.

Forgiveness isn't for the transgressor, it's for you. This is something that happened like 40+ years ago to people strange to you, and you still harbor obvious bitterness when you weren't even involved. He was an over privileged kid from a richer family who panicked when he got into a bind. He also never advanced further in politics. Let it go.

Ya see that presents a problem. I'm guessing you think the Iraq War was more than justified but a whole heap of people think we were lied to (WMD's, Saddam's capabilities). Lemme guess. The original "WMD/Saddam is a threat" justification doesn't mean a thing to you. OVer 4,000 US troops have died for what exactly?

You're right, we don't agree. Feel free to hold George Bush in low esteem and attack him at every turn...you have my permission. Oh wait, you've been doing that.
Carry on.
And comparing the decisions and judgements of the Commander in Chief with those of a drunk who just ran his car into a pond is a bit of a stretch. But, since you have. Find me one person that agrees with Ted Kennedy's decision that night. Yeah.

You're right. According to you Kennedy got one person killed that night. Mr. Bush's decisions have gotten over 4,000 americans killed. And I believe this is the only time I've attacked Mr. Bush. "You've been doing that" is a bit of a stretch.
So...why have so many people died in Iraq?
