In a country where classiness has disappeared, Paul Newman always stayed classy. A bigger person than he was a movie star, and he was awfully damn big movie star.

He could sing, too!

"I don't care if it rains or freezes,
'long as I got my plastic Jesus
ridin' on the dashboard with me."

=======

''I have steak at home, why go out for hamburger?'' Newman told Playboy magazine when asked if he was tempted to stray.

This is sad, I met Paul when i was 12 years old at the St. Pete Grand Prix. My dad had pit passes and at the end of the day we got to chat with him for a few minutes and i remember shaking his hand and being all excited as it was my first encounter with any kind of celebrity. This was the same year and race his racing partner crashed into a wall and died.

"He said that over the toilet bowl in his office bathroom he hung a letter from a fan -- of his tomato sauce.

The letter ends: "My girlfriend mentioned that you were a movie star and I would be interested to know what you have made. If you act as well as you cook, your movies should be worth watching." "

Sad to hear.

Like everyone has said, he was a great actor and a classy man. I love his work but if I could only pick one it would be the first one I saw him in: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The chemistry he had with Redford in the film was wonderful.

He will be missed.

Nice. Thanks for the pic. I know this is all about Newman, and he was a nice looking man, but imo Redford was one of the best looking men of his generation. And he was at his peak as Sundance. Isn't there a drooling smilie?

"When not before - or behind - the camera, Newman raised money for good causes through sales of his sauces and salad dressings. Here, he plays the clown in Zippo's Circus in London for a children's charity."

One of the sexiest men ever.I most definitely agree with that! He was the first older man to "float my boat" when I was a teenager. I could get lost in those eyes.

Although Redford is handsome, I never thought he held a candle to Paul Newman. To each his own, I guess.

What a great actor, nobody will ever fill his shoes. Amazing blue eyes but what got me was that gorgeous mouth, those lips!! I can't even begin to decide which of his movies I loved the most, but I always imagined his character "Sully" in "Nobody's Fool" was most like his real personality---an adorable rascal!
