I got to see the last quarter and a half. Silver Stars blew a 9 point lead once LA D-ed up and took away their offensive flow. Sophia Young was not playing well at all while I was watching. Even after Hammon hit that three to put the Stars up by one, Sophia allowed herself to get pushed under the basket and out of rebounding position - giving LA an easy second chance go-ahead layup after a miss.

She made up for it big-time. That was about as clutch a buzzer-beater as you you can make in a playoff game. It was a bit hard off the glass, hit the front rim, went back off the glass again...and in.

Of course you always welcome opportunity for extra money.

Quite possible. I don't have any of the financial numbers, so I don't know for sure. But, my guess is that no WNBA franchise turns a profit.

That's not a diss on the WNBA. I think the WNBA is good for the communities and for young girls in those communities that the teams are in. My point was to disagree with any notion that Holt would be excited over this for revenue reasons. That's not the point of the WNBA, at least at this point in its existence. Even if the Silver Stars turn over a profit by going all the way, would that money be of any significance compared to what most businesses, much less NBA organizations generally make yearly? I'm guessing no.

Home court advantage in the WNBA means having games 2 and 3 at home and game 1 on the road, I think. We have the best record in the league, therefore I think we'll have to wait till game 2 to meet at the AT&T Center.

This could turn out to be the second best team Sophia Young has played on. :)

This being one of the first Silver Stars games I've gotten to see, I can sort of see why Hammon might not have been wanted on the Olympic team. She seems to be from the "bad shot beats a good pass" school. Since my extremely biased opinion is that they should be running PnR and feeding Sophia in the post, maybe I'm overstating it. She can sure shoot though. She reminds me of Steve Nash without the passing ability.

Home court advantage in the WNBA means having games 2 and 3 at home and game 1 on the road, I think. We have the best record in the league, therefore I think we'll have to wait till game 2 to meet at the AT&T Center.

Finals is a 5 game series.

Hammon doesn't choke though. Hammon > Nash

Both play horrible defense.

Nash is a lot of things, but I'd never really thought of him as a choker.

Any SpursTalkers want to try and get a block of tickets to sit together? I've got my ticket, but I'll swap or sell it if we all can sit together.
great idea! i hope more STalkers will go to the game to show support. i went to a silver stars vs. storm game in the regular season and the attendance (9,000+)was better than today's game. too bad i was working today that's why i couldn't attend the game...

That game 5 possession just letting the ball glance off his fingers was pretty gaggy.

Yep, that was a bad play. Are you suggesting that Steve Nash's body of work makes him a choker? I somehow doubt it.

Becky Hammon is very pretty for a WNBA player.

Calling her "smokin hot" is an extreme exaggeration of her looks.

Ehh, hes not a Clifford Robinson like choker, but, defensive lapses hes made, questionable plays during big games, ehhhh like i said, not full on, but, hes had his moments.

I can think of a lot of words to describe Steve Nash, but he's hit too many big shots in big games (even in games that his teams eventually lost) for me to think of him as a choker.

I wouldn't say choker, but, not the most 100% clutch guy out there.

Heck NO:lol I'll be rooting for the Shock, but I can't honestly admit to following them enough to consider myself a fan. I'd take my current sorry name over one falsely repping the Shock!

75-73 Detoit. close one. Are the Silver Stars going to have to put up with that silly Deeee-troiiiiiit baaaaass-ket-baaaaaaaaall, or do they do that at Shock games?

Not on anything. I said she's very pretty for a WNBA player. And, I'm saying she's not smoking hot. I didn't include "for a WNBA player" when I said she's not smoking hot. And, the T Park didn't qualify it by saying smoking hot for a WNBA player. He just said she's smoking hot. Well, she's not. She's a good looking woman who is not smoking hot.

ok so I was strongly considering going to game 1 on Wednesday.....but the stupid WNBA once again fucks up.

The game starts at 6:30....what is that crap. Start the game at 7:30. The games are only 2 hours anyway. Most of us dont get out of work until 6 or 7. I dont get out of work until 6:30. So much for me going to the game.

Not only does the WNBA make it difficult for the fans to support it, with poor marketing and poor TV scheduling times.......the Silver Stars do a horrible job of marketing their product. The games start too early. Also, only about half the games are on TV. Show all the games on TV just like they do with the Spurs. Start home games at 7 or 7:30 so more people have an opportunity to go. Market the product to children, especially young girls. Offer more merchandise throughout town. There is diddly squat at the Academy on Vance Jackson and that is supposed to be the Silver Stars headquarters. I have been trying to get a Becky Hammon jersey (in toddler size) for my niece for 2 years now.....but they dont have them.

Also, who is the freakin genius who puts the Stars up against the Dallas Cowboys.......no wonder no one gets into this team. Hey, why not just play the games at 2 in the am......

JamStone

Well realize San Antonio is an hour behind Detroit time, so 7:30 in San Antonio is 8:30 in Detroit. And, the target audience for the WNBA consists of young girls. You're talking about possibly having the game end somewhere around 10:30 or later in Detroit if you start it 7:30 San Antonio time. That is probably a consideration.

I do agree that sucks for people who don't get out of work early enough in San Antonio. Perhaps 7:00 p.m. San Antonio time would have been a better compromise.
