El famoso equipo de exhibición de básquet, Harlem Globetrotters, le ofreció un partido amistoso al seleccionado argentino, según comunicó la oficina de prensa del equipo estadounidense. El informe de los directivos del conjunto yanqui explicaba que la Confederación Argentina ya recibió la oferta para el encuentro, que sería en cancha neutral (todavía sin fecha definida), con ganancias de cerca de un millón de dólares y sistema televisivo de pague para ver.

El presidente de la Confederación, Horacio Muratore, analizará los puntos de la oferta el viernes, en una conferencia en la que también participará el entrenador del seleccionado argentino, Rubén Magnano. “Argentina puede ser el mejor equipo del mundo en la actualidad, pero nuestro plantel está en gran forma para ese desafío", sostuvo Mannie Jackson, presidente de los Globetrotters.

El funcionario remarcó que vieron al elenco nacional en el Preolímpico de Puerto Rico y destacó a Emanuel Ginóbili como “una estrella de la NBA”. Además, el estadounidense agregó que Argentina “juega de la manera en la que se supone que hay que jugar a este deporte”.

Los Harlem Globetrotters actuaron en 117 países ante unos 121 millones de espectadores, incluídas varias giras por la Argentina, especialmente en las décadas del '70 y '80.

Globetrotters want to play Argentina

The Harlem Globetrotters basketball team challenged Olympic champion Argentina to a $1 million winner-take-all game that would be shown on pay-per-view television.

Promoters have agreed to provide the prize money and put the game on TV, the Arizona-based Globetrotters said in a statement. The game would be played on a neutral court on a date to be determined.

Simon Getzel, general secretary of Argentina's basketball federation, said in a telephone interview from Buenos Aires that the offer would be presented to the team.

Manu won't play with the Argentina national team until May/ June 2006. In fact, most of the important players won't be there until 2006, because they have taken a year off.

Argentina already qualified for the World Championship hosted in Japan in 2006 because of the Athens gold medal. So in the 2005 Americas Tounament we'll send young players, so they win some international experience.

Manu has already stated that he wouldn't be playing for the Arg NT for the next several years. I dont think he will be on the 06 or 07 team.
