I believe to get a Spurs one a set number of people need to reserve and put a down payment for one and if they get enough they will make them. Something like that.

Nope. Spurs have to submit a design and pay something like $8K to get a plate made (once approved). Cheap bastards in the FO won't do it. According to the specialty plates FAQ (http://www.txdot.gov/services/vehicle_titles_and_registration/specialty_plates/sponsor_faqs.htm) the $8K is refunded after 1900 plates are sold/renewed. I have a hard time believing that rabid SA fans wouldn't buy that many.

Then again, the Mavs only sold 788 (http://www.txdot.gov/services/vehicle_titles_and_registration/specialty_plates/revenue_spreadsheet.xls) thru the end of 2007 ... :lmao

Interestingly, the most popular "special" plate is the "State of the Arts" plate, with over 200,000 at the end of 2007.
