Police say in a "tragic" turn of events, one of the suspects in Friday's credit union robbery in Gastonia literally "scared to death" a 79-year-old Belmont woman while trying to elude a massive manhunt for him and his alleged accomplice.

Gaston County Police charged Larry E. Whitfield, 20, of 1570 Hollow Maple Drive, Charlotte with first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping in the death of Mary Elmore Parnell.

"She basically got scared to death," said Police Capt. Calvin Shaw.

My neighbor told me about this story just about 15 mins ago. He is Jewish.

I think it is sad.

you can't die of being scared. There has to be an actual cause of death. Heart attack or something being scared isn't going to fly and its likely to be what gets this guy off.

Bank robbers more often than not use scare tactics so I'm not surprised.
