Magic's Howard shines in adidas' private NBA pickup game (http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_nothingbutnet/2008/10/potpourri-satur.html)
posted by Kyle Hightower

Ever wondered what happens when you get six NBA stars on a court for a pickup game and cameras just happen to be in the room?

Well, NBA shoe and apparel partner adidas has you covered.

The adidas folks were gracious enough to pass along a video of NBA stars and adidas endorsers Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Chauncey Billups, Tracy McGrady, Tim Duncan, Josh Smith and others on a pick-up game run in a gym on the campus of UCLA back in July. While they certainly are all appearing together because of their endorsement affiliations, it is interesting to point out that KG and Billups to actually train at the same facility in the offseason.

And in case you don’t remember, the NBA and adidas announced an 11-year partnership back in 2006 that is believed to be in excess of $400 million and replaced the 10-year deal that Reebok negotiated with the league in 2001. (Reebok had been acquired by adidas earlier that same year.)

Besides some decent basketball moments in this video (which I’m sure will be hitting the airwaves in commercial form this upcoming season), there is plenty of comedic value as well. Most notably the sideline banter between Howard and Garnett as D-12 tries to get his reigning NBA champion counterpart to hop on the “Superman” bandwagon.

Howard: “They don’t even call me Dwight anymore, everybody calls me Superman.”
KG: “I’m gonna call your (bleep) Dwight.”

Classic stuff.

Also love the Billups line to Garnett at the beginning: “Stay ready you ain’t gotta get ready.”

Who thinks that might be on a T-shirt this season?

Anyway, enough talk. Enjoy:

I think it's also amusing in a video clip like that, "Superman" gets blocked twice.

Wasn't Gilbert Arenas one of the main 5ive guys initially? I think they traded him in for Dwight Howard. Smart move, Adidas.

Arenas was in the 5 campaign. And Arenas and Howard were both part of adidas "Basketball Is A Brotherhood" campaign last year. I don't know if Arenas is still part of it.

Wow look at jordan farmar mang...

jordan farmar with all the major stars on the same team.
can i say that even adidas thinks that jordan can become a star as well?
look at his hops, his passes, his attitude.

give him time to play with our talented starters, and he will become better
than rajon rondo.

watch out, he be the next big thanggg mannnggg~!

KG would be a cool guy to hang with, even though hes all fake tough on the court, he seems like a funny down to earth guy off the court.

They don't show alot of Timmy until the end...at first, I was thinking that tall dude in the background kinda looks like Duncan.

And he's wearing his shorts backwards.

Whot? I gotta go watch that vid again.

Personally, I would invite them to put Farmar in the game. Vujacic is a better player, imo. He is a fag, yes... but better.

Duncan always wears his shorts backwards in practice. He started doing it at Wake, he had a particularly good practice and discovered afterwards that his shorts were on backwards. He's been doing it ever since. I happened to notice they were on backwards in this pick-up game too.

EDIT: I remembered it wrong. He noticed before the practice. From his site:

The only superstition I really have is that I wear my practice shorts backwards during practice. In college I came out of the locker room one practice and later realized my shorts were on backwards, so I didn’t bother to correct them. I had a great practice, and ever since it has been a tradition for me.

So does the director tell KG to just keep running his mouth from the moment they roll cameras or what?

Not enough TD in that

I think it comes natural to KG.

I'm hoping they each get their own again.

I love it how they show a couple different angles on Duncan's shot to make it more exciting haha

:lol A couple of times, but he still wasn't working. I have no problem with him not going all out in a pick-up game in July. I'll take a lower risk of injury to a highlight reel.

Calling a game winner deserves a couple of angles. :)

Duncan's game has always spoken for him. So has his resume. There's no need for much smack. He gets the least camera time but he's the most decorated of the adidas NBA crew.

the dude with the tim duncan video sig, fuck that was nice

i still prefer the rookie tim duncan over prime/now duncan...dude was more hungry to win, hustled on alot of plays and celebrated like he wanted it more than anything....low post spin moves bring that shit back duncan and you dominate.
