WASHINGTON - The Republican National Committee plans to file a fundraising complaint against Democrat Barack Obama's presidential campaign Monday, alleging it has accepted donations that exceed federal limits as well as illegal contributions from foreigners.

RNC officials acknowledged Sunday that they do not have a list of foreign donors to Obama's campaign. Instead, the complaint is based largely on media reports, including one from a conservative Web site.

The complaint asks the Federal Elections Commission to audit Obama's campaign fund, RNC chief counsel Sean Cairncross said in a conference call with reporters.

Real issues? You mean like Palin's daughter being pregnant, McCain not using email, etc? Yeah, you Dems have the market cornered on real issues!

Or like Barney Frank trying to play the race card today because Republicans are singling out the high risk loans Fannie and Freddie gave to low income families for homes they couldn't afford, saying Republicans were targeting blacks to blame the financial crisis on :rolleyes

Yeah, real issues and distractions indeed!

Once again, AHF, it wasn't the high risk loans that cause this. It was the re-packaging and selling of them as low risk securities that's setting off this financial bomb. Maybe I was giving you too much credit too be able to see the difference. Nice GOP parroted soundbite, though.

Fishing?

Barack Obama's fundraising has been riddled with fraud from the beginning. In a case of "better late than never," the McCain campaign announced in a press conference today that it will file a complaint with the FEC. The sort of blatant criminality from which Obama has benefited is suggested by this report by Newsweek's Michael Isikoff (http://www.newsweek.com/id/162403):

The Obama campaign has shattered all fund-raising records, raking in $458 million so far, with about half the bounty coming from donors who contribute $200 or less. Aides say that's an illustration of a truly democratic campaign. To critics, though, it can be an invitation for fraud and illegal foreign cash because donors giving individual sums of $200 or less don't have to be publicly reported. Consider the cases of Obama donors "Doodad Pro" of Nunda, N.Y., who gave $17,130, and "Good Will" of Austin, Texas, who gave more than $11,000—both in excess of the $2,300-per-person federal limit.

In two recent letters to the Obama campaign, Federal Election Commission auditors flagged those (and other) donors and informed the campaign that the sums had to be returned. Neither name had ever been publicly reported because both individuals made online donations in $10 and $25 increments. "Good Will" listed his employer as "Loving" and his occupation as "You," while supplying as his address 1015 Norwood Park Boulevard, which is shared by the Austin nonprofit Goodwill Industries. Suzanha Burmeister, marketing director for Goodwill, said the group had "no clue" who the donor was. She added, however, that the group had received five puzzling thank-you letters from the Obama campaign this year, prompting it to send the campaign an e-mail in September pointing out the apparent fraudulent use of its name.

"Doodad Pro" listed no occupation or employer; the contributor's listed address is shared by Lloyd and Lynn's Liquor Store in Nunda. "I have never heard of such an individual," says Diane Beardsley, who works at the store and is the mother of one of the owners. "Nobody at this store has that much money to contribute." (She added that a Doodad's Boutique, located next door, had closed a year ago, before the donations were made.)
These crimes came to light because the people who made the illegal contributions made no effort at concealment. There is no easy way to know how much of Obama's loot is in fact illegal.

The issue of illegal foreign contributions is one that the mainstream media have successfully kept out of the news, but it is a serious concern:

In a similar case earlier this year, the campaign returned $33,000 to two Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip who had bought T shirts in bulk from the campaign's online store. They had listed their address as "Ga.," which the campaign took to mean Georgia rather than Gaza.
This pattern of criminality is not accidental. It is, rather, an indictment of the scofflaw character of Obama's campaign:

This summer, watchdog groups asked both campaigns to share more information about its small donors. The McCain campaign agreed; the Obama campaign did not.
The rampant fraud that supports Barack Obama's campaign is a serious matter--a criminal matter, in fact. But not in the eyes of the Associated Press. An AP reporter participated in today's press conference and wrote this report (http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D93KMBP01&show_article=1), reproduced here in its entirety to show what an utter whitewash of the Obama campaign it is:

The Republican National Committee plans to file a fundraising complaint against Democrat Barack Obama's presidential campaign Monday, alleging it has accepted donations that exceed federal limits as well as illegal contributions from foreigners.
RNC officials acknowledged Sunday that they do not have a list of foreign donors to Obama's campaign. Instead, the complaint is based largely on media reports, including one from the conservative Web site Newsmax.

The complaint asks the Federal Elections Commission to audit Obama's campaign fund, RNC chief counsel Sean Cairncross said in a conference call with reporters.

Cairncross said little is known about many of Obama's donors because the campaign is not required to disclose detailed information about people who give less than $200.

The Obama campaign, which is not accepting public funds, has raised more than $468 million. About half has come from small donors, a point of pride for the Obama campaign.

The Obama campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Note, in particular, the absurdity of this observation:

RNC officials acknowledged Sunday that they do not have a list of foreign donors to Obama's campaign.
It is illegal for foreigners to donate to an American political campaign, and Obama has refused to release information about his "small" donors. So how, exactly, could the Republican Party possibly have a "list of foreign donors to Obama's campaign"?

Running interference for criminal fraud: that's the role of the Associated Press since it became a liberal advocacy organization.

Pamela Geller has devoted substantial time and effort to exposing Obama's illegal campaign contributions with a special eye to his illegal foreign contributions. She comments on Isikoff's story: "The Newsweek article includes statement by the Obama campaign that they returned all the money from Palestinian brothers. The records show they did not (http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2008/08/those-gazan-con.html)."

Geller has now collected the links to her series of posts on the subject in "Obama contributions: The RNC finally blinks! Atlas gets results! Newsweak plagiarizes Atlas." (http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/obamas_foreign_contributions/) Geller's column "Obama's foreign donors: The media averts its eyes" (http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/08/obamas_donor_contributions_sil.html) provides a useful summary of her work.

Among the donors Geller identified this past July, for example, was this fellow:

Name: Hbkjb, jkbkj

City: Jkbjnj

Works for: Kuman Bank [doesn't exist]

Occupation: Balanon Jalalan

Amount: $1,077.23
Only the money, of course, is real.

Fishing, indeed. Obama's got more trouble than whom he associates with.

So Yoni plagiarizes a blog that accuses Newsweek of plagiarizing a blog.

If Obama's campaign isn't releasing the names of it's contributors, why does the plagiarized blog list names of the contributors?

And, it keeps piling up...

More Bogus Obama Donors Surface (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/06/cbsnews_investigates/main4504955.shtml).

"CBS News has learned that two donors to the Obama campaign that gave a total of $7,722 appear to have made their contributions under fake names that look like they were written by a mouse running across a keyboard: Dahsudhu Hdusahfd of Df, Hawaii with the following employer CZXVC/ZXVZXV and Uadhshgu Hduadh listed as living in Dhff, Florida listed their employer as DASADA/SAFASF."
Since it's CBS, though, we should probably ask for a second opinion.

Of course it's a fishing expedition. It's stated in the article itself:

That means they actually have no evidence of any wrongdoing. So they're asking the Federal Elections Commission to launch a fishing expedition to see if they catch something.

+1 The markets can deal with anything they understand, including high risk paper. They had no idea that those AAA rated securities were really DDD. When they had to be re-classified, it required more collateral against their short term loans, which reduced their liquidity to zero, or less. Bank fails.

Sorry, but you are going the wrong direction again. "It's the wall that killed him, not the bricks." Without the rotten debt, there are no questionable mortgage backed securities to sell. You basically had companies making loans to themselves for assets they didn't actually have, hence the "bubble". In this case, one hand didn't know what the other was doing.

FEC Queries McCain Campaign on 'Excessive Contributions'

By Matthew Mosk
While the Republican Party is pushing the Federal Election Commission to investigate the possibility that Democrat Barack Obama collected excessive contributions, its own candidate is facing scrutiny on the same subject.

The FEC sent a letter to Sen. John McCain's campaign treasurer Sept. 30 demanding the candidate turn over more information about "contributions that appear to exceed the limits."

The letter is accompanied by a nine-page list showing scores of overages from McCain's August campaign finance report, including nearly $13,000 from Texas rancher Ray R. Barrett Jr.; $9,200 from an Iraqi security consultant, H. Carter Andress; and $5,000 from Joseph F. Davolio, an executive at a major national liquor, beer and wine distributor.

"Please inform the Commission of your corrective action immediately in writing and provide photocopies of any refund checks and/or letters reattributing or redesignating the contributions in question," the letter from the FEC's senior campaign finance analyst, Leah S. Palmer, says. "The acceptance of excessive contributions is a serious problem."

The FEC sent its letter a week before a lawyer for the Republican National Committee said the party will ask the Federal Election Commission to look into the source of thousands of small-dollar contributions to Obama.

The RNC is alleging that the Obama campaign was so hungry for donations it "looked the other way" as contributions piled up from suspicious and possibly even illegal foreign donors. RNC Chief Counsel Sean Cairncross alleged there was mounting evidence of this, and cited a report in the current issue of Newsweek magazine that documents a handful of instances where donors made repeated small donations using fake names, such as "Good Will" and "Doodad Pro."

At worst any fake donations for either candidate will be going to charity.

I don't get why those people just don't give the above-limit money to the national committees in the first place.
