Ramirez is batting just .191 (9-for-47) with three homers in Philadelphia’s hitter-friendly ballpark. He joked about his lack of success here and told reporters he needed extra batting practice.:lmao:lmao:lmao:lmao:lmao:lmao

ducks obsession over the broncos and the dodgers/manny is something he should get checked out. That can't be healthy.

JMarkJohns
10-09-2008, 11:05 AM
Lots of factors could be a part of his lack of success. If you expect him to repeat those numbers right now, I'm afraid you're mistaken. He probably won't hit .400 with a handful of homers and two hands full of RBI, but him batting around .280-.300 with 2 homers and 5 RBI is doable at Philly if the series goes six or seven.

i thought tonite was gonna be tough. hamels is a shut down ace pitcher. If the dodgers won this game, and they were an error and one pitch away from winning it, i think the phils woulda been dejected losing with their ace out there. billingsley will come through tomarrow.

That was the BEST pitcher the phils had. their next 3 are MAJOR drop offs. I am not worried one bit anymore. Bills going tonight is a sure win with Myers pitching, thhen Kuroda vs Moyer? lol.

Their pitching drops off quite dramatically and if their bats don't keep pace they will lose Game 2.

No, he's not 4 times better than Webb; but he is substantially better than Dunn -- shame on you for thinking otherwise.

Your willingness to suggest that Manny is anything less than a no-brainer Hall of Famer and (likely) the greatest right-handed hitter of this generation is beyond bizarre to me.

Then again, you keep insisting that Lebron James isn't very good, either.

Dunn hits around .250 for his career and has hit under .240 for 2 of the last 3 years while striking out almost 170 times per season.

Manny hits 40 home runs AND hits .314 for his career and has hit better than .320 for 2 of the last 3 years while striking out 120 times or fewer in each of those sesaons.

If you offered a team 4 Adam Dunn type players for 1 Manny Ramirez type player, I think the team that would be giving up the Manny wouldn't immediately bite on that offer. I know I wouldn't.

Great. It's the fact that the Dodgers played a whole lot better after they got Manny and won the division and a playoff series -- all with Manny being an incredible offensive player -- that shows that Manny's a great player.

You seem to think Manny is overrated just because the Red Sox keep winning, but that's a bogus argument. As you said, the Red Sox have had to completely change their style after losing Manny to keep the results the same. They were winning with Manny and they've won without him after changing their style. The relevant point here, however, is that the Dodgers werent' winning until they got Manny, but with him, they overtook the leader for most of the season in the NL West.

FromWayDowntown
10-11-2008, 11:44 AM
By the way, check your homerism -- if Webb got traded to a bad team that got better when he went there, but the D'Backs winning percentage got better after Webb left, would you say that Webb is overrated?

Just to put these numbers in print somewhere:

Manny Ramirez

8 games
AVG: .520 (13-25)
OBP: .667 (24-36)
SLG: 1.080 (27 total bases in 25 AB)
OPS: 1.747
Runs: 9
2B: 2
HR: 4
RBI: 10
Walks: 11

More than just the sheer numbers is the consistency: he had a hit in every postseason game this year, but he had 2 hits in 5 of the Dodgers' 8 postseason games. He also scored in 6 of his team's 8 games, and he drove in a run in 7 of those 8 games, including all 5 LCS games
