Because I'm bored as hell with nothing to do, I decided to start the game blog for tonight.

I predict Parker sees little if any time tonight.

Duncan MAY play. Bowen MAY.

I'd say Vaughn and Hill get a crap load of time tonight.

Very interested in seeing how Watkins plays vs Chandler and West.

Interested to see how Mason guards Peja and Mo Pete.

Should be decent viewing, if you just care what the rookies and walk ons do and don't give a crap about everything else.

This game is not televised, period. All we might end up getting is the free Audio League Pass from NBA.com

I'll probably go out or watch the Dallas Stars opening night game, or something.

Fuck, I'll be chilling in Houston tonight, I'll have 30+ pages to read when I get back. Unless there are some nice wireless servers where I'll be in H-town. Surely someone will have an open line I can jack.

Yeah...I have checked my guide on Dish and there is some other games on but not this one. Unless something happens in the next few hours its not likely to be televised. If there is no link I will probably just catch the box score later this evening. I hate listening to basketball on the radio.

Well, one of the teams has to be broadcasting the game in order for there to be a feed to stream online of the game, neither team is broadcasting the game so there will be no feed.

I would think OAI has it, who knows though.

I would suggest using the free feature, which I think NBA.COM is offering for radio PBP during the preseason.

Jeff McDonald: Break out the big guns (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/courtside/archives/2008/10/jeff_mcdonald_b_16.html)

Now starting for the Spurs ... some guys you've heard of.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich Tim Duncan, Michael Finley and Bruce Bowen will all play in tonight's preseason game against New Orleans, after sitting out last night's loss at Houston. They will start alongside Matt Bonner and Tony Parker, both of whom started against the Rockets.

Here's guessing it will still be a short night for most, if not all, of the above.

Fabricio Oberto and and Ime Udoka will take their turn in street clothes, earning the night off.

Meanwhile, don't be surprised if Popovich gives Parker an early hook, replacing him with rookie George Hill. Spurs coaches are interested to see how Hill might react against New Orleans' Chris Paul, perhaps the toughest point-guard cover in the league.

Updates: Spurs vs. Hornets (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/Updates_Spurs_vs_Hornets_.html)
MySanAntonio.com - SPURS-HORNETS GAME BLOG

SECOND QUARTER

Anthony Tolliver was one of the new Spurs who saw playing time in the first half. Tolliver had four points and six rebounds in 12 minutes as the Spurs took a 51-49 halftime lead.

Tolliver, a center, is listed at only 6-foot-8. Despite that, he looks more than happy to throw his body around in the lane and fight for rebounds. He has a wide enough body to muscle some people out of the way. Tolliver also showed his versatility by hitting a 3-pointer.

Tolliver averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds last season in the NBA Developmental League. He averaged 13.4 points and 6.7 rebounds as a senior at Creighton.

Former Spur and San Antonio high school legend Devin Brown saw action for the Hornets in the second quarter.

Tim Duncan looks well rested. Early in the second quarter he grabbed an offensive rebound, spun around and threw down a dunk. He added a driving dunk later in the quarter.

FIRST QUARTER

The Spurs youngsters got a lot of playing time in the first quarter and the Hornets finished the period with a 31-30 lead.

Tony Parker and Michael Finley led the Spurs with eight points each. The slimmed-down Finley hit two 3-pointers.

Rookie point guard George Hill and shooting guard Roger Mason Jr. were the first two new Spurs to get into the game. Hill got some playing time alongside Spurs veterans like Duncan and Finley.

Hill found himself matched up against Hornets star point guard Chris Paul. Hill made a pair of free throws after being fouled on a fast break. He added a 3-pointer that put the Spurs in front 28-23.

The Spurs and Hornets, two of the top teams in the West last season, shot like playoff teams in the opening minutes with their starters on the floor. They combined to hit 15 of their first 21 shots. The Spurs took an 18-17 lead.

Spurs starters: Tim Duncan, Matt Bonner, Bruce Bowen, Michael Finley and Tony Parker.

PREGAME

Tim Duncan, Bruce Bowen and Michael Finley are in uniform for tonight's game. All three sat out Thursday's game in Houston.

A bunch of new Spurs will get their first taste of the AT&T Center tonight when the Spurs take on the New Orleans Hornets.

It is the second preseason game for the Spurs, who lost in Houston on Thursday night.

Several young Spurs got extensive playing time against the Rockets. Expect more of the same tonight.

The Hornets already have two preseason victories under their belts.

I think it's a good thing. Pop needs to see how they go up against top competition. Break 'em down and build them back up. It will be better off in the long run and improve their toughness too. You don't want to give thema false sense of confidence. You want them to know exactly what they have to work on to improve.

Final: Hornets 89, Spurs 84 (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/Updates_Spurs_vs_Hornets_.html)
MySanAntonio.com - SPURS-HORNETS GAME BLOG

FOURTH QUARTER

The Spurs' Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Michael Finley all looked solid early and sat out the second half of Friday's 89-84 preseason loss to the New Orleans Hornets at the AT&T Center.

For the second straight night, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich gave the bulk of the playing time to a group of rookies, young players and newcomers.

Spurs rookie point guard George Hill got some experience playing with his veteran teammates in the first half. Center Anthony Tolliver showed aggressiveness going for rebounds against established NBA players and Desmon Farmer hit some 3-pointers down the stretch.

The young Spurs got a chance to learn the hard way in the second half - going head to head with New Orleans' top players. The Hornets starters put together a 16-7 run to start the second half.

Duncan had 12 points and three rebounds in less than 18 minutes. Parker had 10 points and three assists and Final had eight points including two 3-pointers.

Veteran point guard Jacque Vaughn ran the Spurs' offense for a long stretch in the second half. Vaughn went down hard in Thursday's game when he took a charge. Against the Hornets, he drew two more charges when Chris Paul ran through him.

THIRD QUARTER: SPURS SUBS VS. HORNETS STARTERS

The Hornets kept their starters in against a bunch of Spurs trying to make the team. As a result, the Hornets finished the third quarter with a 69-60 lead.

The Spurs' veterans might be done at halftime. They opened the second half with George Hill, Roger Mason Jr., Malik Hairston and Darryl Watkins. Matt Bonner was the only starter back out on the floor. Those five went up against the Hornets' starters.

Watkins got the crowd's attention with a block that sent a Hornets shot into the stands.

Rookie impressive, but Spurs fall again (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/Updates_Spurs_vs_Hornets_.html)
Hornets 89, Spurs 84
Jeff McDonald - Express-News

George Hill was a senior at IUPUI five months ago, when the Spurs and New Orleans Hornets engaged in a seven-game showdown in the Western Conference semifinals.

Thrown into the fray early in Friday night's preseason rematch at the AT&T Center, Hill wasted little time showing he belonged. Two seconds into his first-quarter appearance, Hill found himself between New Orleans point guard Chris Paul and the basket with the shot clock winding down. The rookie forced the All-Star to miss.

The Spurs lost the game 89-84, falling for the second night in a row, but left the building encouraged about the progress of their first-round draft pick.

Before the game, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich unveiled his plan to throw Hill into the fire.

“He can watch Chris go by him,” Popovich said, “and then try to figure out what do.”

It didn't take Hill long to come up with an answer.

In his first 3:05 upon entering the game in the first quarter, the rookie point guard twice defended Paul into misses, drew a foul with a hard drive to the hoop and buried a 3-pointer.

He finished with 10 points in 14 minutes. More than that, he impressed with his poise.

Tim Duncan scored 12 points in his preseason debut.

a lot of the doubt and worries that I had about the rooks coming into the preseason are slowly fading.

I understand that its the preseason and that its only two "games" but I'm pretty damn impressed. Whether this translates into the regular season and beyond I'm not sure, but the young ones are really working hard and showing their stuff.
