Either Vaughn Goes..or I Do!!

Based on your 69 prior posts in this forum, I would suggest a change in your title line from "Believe" to "I Hate Vaughn..what's the question, again?"

Vaughn is a coach on the floor and a mature voice in the room. Scoring points is only part of basketball and scoring is not JV's role. If you have truly been watching the Spurs for 32 years, why don't you already know that?

Punkkboy44, based on your body of work (after clicking on your name & viewing many of your previous posts) you don't have very many positive things to say, so I guess if you left, it would probably have the impact of removing a bloody finger from a public swimming pool.

Yeah, his ultimatum is ridiculous but his general point is correct - Vaughn should probably go.

Carrying a 3rd string point guard when we're in desperate need of scoring, and with Mason around to fill in as a 3rd stringer, does not make much sense. Vaughn's contributions are overrated as is the insurance he provides.

In fact, even if Hill did go out for a while with injury, having Mason as the backup would then allow us to get another scorer in the lineup, perhaps someone like Farmer.

Farmer might be a headcase but at the same time he seems competitive, confident, and perhaps just dumb enough to not get flustered while acclimating to the System.

Unfortunately, this preseason seems like a bit of a show because I can't see Pop getting rid of Vaughn, nor can I see any team (except Toronto) wanting to take a shot with Bonner, which even if that were the case involves trading for a player we probably have no room for.

And, given Pop's pursuit of Salim, and the supposed front loaded contract they gave him, and his previous experience in the league, it seems unlikely that Salim won't make the team.

Of course, things could change...

The time has come for JV to go. I can’t deal with him anymore.:bang:bang He brings nothing to the table. Who would want to listen to him any way from a leadership ponit of view? You have to earn your respect first to be heard and J.V has done nothing to earn it. Spurs players will just laugh in his face.

He keeps holding back our talent like Udrigh, Washington, and Stoudemire. Beno was playing decent untill JV arrived. If Pop stuck by Beno, Washington and Stoudamire like he does with Vaughn we wouldn’t be searching for back up PG left right and center. JV time is up. Sign Salim and just waive JV, an injured Salim any day over JV.

Yes they were good players, because the teams they played were barely a team.
If the thread starter is gonna dart now when they are a winning team,
how did he make it through the late 80's when the above were playing here and they really stunk. They didn't really deseve to be in the playoffs those years when they did make them.

Yeah, I wouldn't never have put JD, Walter Berry and certainly not Alvin Robertson on that list. Offcourt issues aside, Roberston was truly one of the great players in Spurs history. A top 10, in my opinion. But we've already had that debate over the long summer and I've already exhaused myself making that case.

On the subject of Vaughn himself...I think we have no choice but to keep him to start the season. I love Hill as much as the next guy, but he is still a rookie and is still developing. People who want to throw all their chips in on a rookie and a streak shooter that plays no defense to spell Parker need to be a little more objective about the situation. Vaughn needs to be there for a backup plan in case there are any unforeseen issues with Hill as the season starts. I don't think that will happen...but remember...all we have seen is the Summer League and a few preseason games. If he is coming along well after the first 15 games then I think its fine to start talking about either moving Vaughn out or to more of a Dallas/Avery Johnson role where he is doing more coaching than playing.

Interesting that JV, in a non-scoring role, is criticized. Few notice that, for instance, versus the Cavaliers Thursday:

*In JV's first stint, the Spurs trailed by 6 when Jacque entered the game but were up by 1 when he went to the bench.
* In JV's second shift, the Spurs were up 5 and when Jacque went out, they were up 12.
* and in JV's 3rd segment of floor time, the Spurs were up 14 and he left as Green sunk a couple of FTs to go up 16 points on the Cavs.

A steady floor leader can be an enabler...regardless of the stats. That's all I'm saying.

Vaughn is a good situational guy to keep around because of his extremely low price tag. He's a good option against certain teams who have point guards that he can keep up with. Not a good option against the likes of Chris Paul, but he has his favorable matchups.

It looks as if the Magic will try to sign a third point guard cut free by another team, but they apparently are not interested in Dan Dickau, who was waived Sunday by the Golden State Warriors. Magic Assistant General Manager Dave Twardzik said Monday that the Magic are content to wait until other teams pare down their NBA rosters before adding another guard. The club is looking for a point guard after losing Mike Wilks to a season-ending knee injury Thursday against the Bobcats in Charlotte, N.C. Starter Jameer Nelson and his back-up, Anthony Johnson, are the only point guards on the roster.

JV for Foyle..both have 1 year on contracts and both make 1.2 mil. Spurs could use another bigman and that would open at least some PT fo the youger guards. This would be a win-win for both teams!!

Foyle can't be traded until dec. 15th and he also has a veto clause in his contract.

but Magic is still a good guess, if the Spurs wanted to cut JV. the Magic have a trade exception they could use. JV wouldn't be a bad solution for them, considering how slow Johnson is and that there will be match ups when Magic just need a quicker defender.
