BTW, there's at least one Nobel winning economist that says Obama's economic plan is a complete disaster waiting to happen. I personally don't think you have to be a fucking Nobel Prize Winner to figure that one out.

Instant Peace Prize :tu

Then once you get the 3 billion a year stick about 20% annually into your personal bank account, by guns and bombs with the rest of it, blame Israel for the poverty of your people and get the idiots to start blowing themselves up again unless you get more money.

I agree McCain's no Bush.
And it is also not true that the US lost an edge in these 8 years in some of the fields.
Nevertheless, it is just plainly impossible for an intelligent individual to support even a decent man of the same party that ruled in the US for the last 8 years.

I think it is true, particularly in medical reasearch..it's the A#1 problem I had with supporting Bush in 2004. It's also something I really like about McCain.

The Stem Cell thing isn't even an issue anymore, Federal funding or otherwise...not than McCain and Obama have a different voting record on it anyway.

What these guys are attempting to claim is that McCain is going to cut research spending while Obama isn't...there is not a shred of evidence to bear that fact out and what evidence there is points to McCain being more likely to spend on research than Obama...who other plans for that money....like giving everyone health care.

The motivation behind this is entirely political gain...these guys simply think the US dollars will flow to them more freely under Obama than McCain....and they think that because the dollars didn't flow freely under Bush.

I think it is true, particularly in medical reasearch..it's the A#1 problem I had with supporting Bush in 2004. It's also something I really like about McCain.

Disagree. I think the field in which the US is really behind is energy.

The Stem Cell thing isn't even an issue anymore, Federal funding or otherwise...not than McCain and Obama have a different voting record on it anyway.

Stem Cell research hasn't stopped. California, for one, is putting huge amount of money on it. Blue state, republican governor, last time I checked.

What these guys are attempting to claim is that McCain is going to cut research spending while Obama isn't...there is not a shred of evidence to bear that fact out and what evidence there is points to McCain being more likely to spend on research than Obama...who other plans for that money....like giving everyone health care.

I think that research spending will be cut no matter who's elected. Simply, the US cannot afford the type of spending of the 90s anymore. In general, it's going to be more military cuts than research/health care with Obama, more the reverse with McCain.

The motivation behind this is entirely political gain...these guys simply think the US dollars will flow to them more freely under Obama than McCain....and they think that because the dollars didn't flow freely under Bush.

Most of them ARE doing no science anymore and they don't give a damn about money.

Stem Cell research hasn't stopped. California, for one, is putting huge amount of money on it. Blue state, republican governor, last time I checked.

Um...no offense, but you evidentally don't have a clue about the Stem Cell debate.

It was never about if States could or would fund Stem Cell Research...

It was about whether or not the Federal Government should fund embryonic Stem Cell Research. which included the production and harvesting of embryonic stem cells...and the destrction of human embryos in the process.

That's what the Bush admin was against...the Federal government funding the production and harvesting of embryonic stem cells which would result in the destruction of actual human embryos.

It's not an issue anymore...we now have the technology to extract embryonic stem cells without destroying the embryo. [/debate]

I think that research spending will be cut no matter who's elected. Simply, the US cannot afford the type of spending of the 90s anymore. In general, it's going to be more military cuts than research/health care with Obama, more the reverse with McCain.

McCain favors research and development of all alternative energy solutions...Obama does not, he has a more limited stance on both nuclear and coal than McCain.

Obama also wants to cut Military research and defense spending, the sector that produced the most scientific advancements of the 20th century...McCain does not.

McCain is also a pilot, like most of the guys that pioneered our space program and considers space research a key element to our National Security...Obama thinks sucking Iranian cock is a key element to our National Security.

Most of them ARE doing no science anymore and they don't give a damn about money.
Believe me, these people play it at another level..

Believe me...these guys said not one fucking word about McCain's plans in their letter...what they said Obama...who makes promises he can't keep every time he opens his mouth.

Obama isn't going to be funding shit for research if he truly intends to implement a National Healthcare plan...

Palin was selected to get the Pro-lifers(the only group on the right fantatical enough to run state and country level campaigns), the middle class, women and the pissed off Hillary supporters...

She's also one of the most charismatic politicians to come down the pipe in a while...

You don't see it yet, but you will on election day.

She's had more positive impact on a Presidential Campaign thany any VP selection in history...as evidenced by the RNC's record fund raising, appearance turnouts and TV ratings since she got the nod.

1) You advance knowledge by doing reasearch.

2) To do research you need money.

3) You don't actually care whether that money comes from the Federal or the State government. Stem cells research is heavily funded in the US by State, as well as charities money. More so than elsewhere in the world. It is highly questionable that had the Federal government decided to fund Stem Cells research, California would have put all that money into it. So Bush's decision had limited impact.
4) Even after the Yamanki experiments, the issue is far from over, as there are arguments against iPS=ES cells. You don't actually extract embryonic stem cells, you revert them from differentiated somatic cells.
5) The ethical issues are very relevant, if the iPS -resulting from the reversion- can actually produce a human being. In fact, they are even more dramatic, because one can technically take his own cells, revert them back to embryonic-like, and use them to create another self.

Would make a shitty bumpersticker...you're either getting better or worse, I'll take you off ignore and keep an eye out for your posts to let you know which it is :tu

you get burned when you try to shower false praise about mccains "breakthrough" policy on stem cell research and fall back to your defensive line with a response like this?

The list contains Laureates from before 2008 of course.

And yes a lot were NOT born in America.
Benacerraf in Venezuela, Dieserhoffer in bavaria, Capecchi and Giacconi in Italy, Jim watson and Ollie Smithies in England, Nambu in Japan, in Russia the first that come to mind.

So what?

My point is that they say "our country" in the letter.

I read somewhere that only 4 of the people that signed this letter are Americans.
