Michael Finley.

Although I admit... I too, along with everyone else, threw him under the bus at the end of last season. It was warranted.

I was one of the last to jump off the Finley bandwagon, so I'll be one of the first to jump back on.

He's in better shape coming into this season, which will allow him to stay on the floor longer. Not only bc his endurance will be improved, but he became a huge defensive liability at times last season. And being in shape will help that. Staying on the floor longer will equal better rhythm and feel for the game. I think towards the end of the season Pop started throwing in some plays for Fin....i.e posting up smaller guards, coming off screens for a jumper....and that helped his game confidence. Maybe Pop will take that into consideration this season, especially with the absence of Manu.

I am hoping to see Finley turn back the clock a few years for an entire season. I have always liked Fin and find it hard to not root for him. GO FIN GO!!! :ihit that clock!!!

He's a jumpshot shooter at this stage in his career. We all know that. He knows the system by now we all know that. He doesnt get hurt as much as Brent we all know that. But his upper body moves faster then his legs and we all know that. That means whether or not he's hitting or missing he cant play defense against the teams we need him to play defense against. When your upper body says go, heck even when your heart says go and yet your legs dont follow its called age. And I personally know that. Its not about Mike being a bad player, cos he isnt. Its about the players he plays against today. Their not the same players he played against 2 plus years ago. And thats a fact. Thats why noone talks about the Fins. No such thing as the fountain of youth, unless he starts playing somewhere other then the NBA.

I was down on fin too, but losing the weight will help him greatly, he will get more lift on his shot, he will be quicker and I think we will see him drive the lane this year. 20 lbs is a huge deal.

I play win a weight vest to get my legs stronger and that is about 20 lbs and when you take it off, man you feel like you could run and jump all day.

I totally agree with you Jason. Finley did not show up in the playoffs like he has before. Luckily we had Brent Barry but now that he is gone Finley is going to have to step up again.

I have hope for Finley. That said, the $5M the Spurs gave to Finley this offseason was way too much for a player whose career looked to be over last year.


Giving Finley about four times more money than they offered Barry is a very questionable move.

I have no problem with Finley being on the Spurs, I had a problem with him being a starter on the Spurs. He's just not at that point anymore in his career.

I don't see Fin having a bad year this season. I think he knows what the Spurs want from him and he has made a conscious effort on his part to be capable of doing that by getting back in shape. He's a shooter, so like any shooter he is going to go through slumps, but so long as he contributes in other ways, I am a happy Spurs fan.

If Finley is still with the team come playoff time (who knows what kind of trade could come up) I'm willing to put up money that, at the very least, one game in the playoffs Finley will save this team from a loss.

It is possible that Finley could turn the clock back and return to the form he had 2-3 years ago. If he is in better shape and lighter than previous years, as an athlete he could improve on last year's performance. There are athletes his age who work very hard to maintain their conditioning, and in effect are just as good as they were when 25-29 years old.

As for Finley, I hope that weight he lost will turn the clock back two years and we get Fin circa 2005-6 for one more season. That would help greatly, although I don't think it will happen.
