Major League Baseball pushes back World Series Game 6 by 8 minutes

Digg Facebook Newsvine del.icio.us Reddit StumbleUpon Technorati Yahoo! Bookmarks Print THE ASSOCIATED PRESS The Associated Press – Thu Oct 16, 3:57 pm ETNEW YORK - Major League Baseball has agreed to push back the start time of a potential World Series Game 6 by eight minutes to allow U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama to purchase a half-hour of air time on the Fox network.

Baseball spokesman Pat Courtney said Thursday that the game time would now be set for 8:35 p.m. ET.

The Obama presidential campaign said Oct. 9 that it had bought the 8-8:30 p.m. slot on CBS and NBC.

"Fox will accommodate Senator Obama's desire to communicate with voters in this long-form format," network spokesman Lou D'Ermilio said in a statement. "We are pleased that Major League Baseball has agreed to delay the first pitch of World Series Game 6 for a few minutes in order for Fox to carry his program on Oct. 29. If requested, the network would be willing to make similar time available to Senator McCain's campaign."

The World Series has not gone to a sixth game since 2003.

The decision was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

He picked the perfect time slot too. McCain has to respond somehow.

This is a win-win for everyone. FOX gets to carry the Obama speech, which will generate more viewers for them than the MLB Playoff pregame even with the program airing on other networks. Plus they get to sell a half hour of TV for more money than they would make from ads during that time.

For MLB, the Obama speech is a great lead-in to the game, so they benefit as well.

I have no idea dude. :lol Obama has pretty much fucked McCain on this deal.
There isn;t anything else left that draws that much ratings between now and Nov 4th. Unless it goes to a 7th game or something and McCain can sneak it in before that game.

Very smart move though I must say.

It's not Obama's fault that McCain chose that dumbass way to get money. Obama chose the smart route based on his popularity with the public.
Meh, now that I think about it McCain probably did choose the safer route......:lol He probably would be flat broke had he went the route Obama went by now.

This is pretty fucking cool. Its not surprising to hear that quote about McCain giving Obama shit for 'buying the presidency'

One thing you can say about the Republicans though. They have the firmest grasp of how stupid their constituency is, and exactly what flavor of diarrhea they think will taste best at any given time.
