21, 20, 9, and "Pop"

I know, "Pop" deviates from the thread title, but I'm sure they will have some sort of ceremony to honor the franchise's greatest coach, if and when he decides to retire.

21 is a lock.

9 will be the best PG to ever play in a Spurs uniform if he finishes his career here.

21 is a lock.

I'm not sure if 20 will, even though I really want it to.

9 will eventually, Parker is gonna be a hell of a player when he's in his prime.

I don't think you have to worry. Manu is possibly already among the top 5 Spurs all time in terms of popularity.

21 9 20

Ginobili's prob the 2nd best SG the Spurs have ever had (a distant 2nd though), and TP is already prob the 3rd best PG in Spurs history (Johnny Moore and Capt. Late look sick everytime I see tape of them... sadly, that's all I could see considering I became a Spurs fan right aobut the time Johnny came down with Desert Fever.)

I qualified my prediction...if he plays 6 more yr and wins 2 more rings(total of 4)

He would have over 5,000 rebs and 7,000 pts all on the Spurs....that would put him in 3rd place on career rebs in SA.

Will he stay 6 more years? That is the question.

21 - The only real lock on the team, as most have said. Barring some catostrophic occurence, Tim will finish his career with the Spurs, hopefully bring in a couple more championships, and have his number hanging beside Robinson's one day.

9 - Tony Parker is the second most likely to have his number retired. He's already earned one championship and has established himself as Duncan's sidekick, the Stockton to our Malone. Furthermore, his new contract will run it's course when Tony is just nearing his late 20s (something like 27/28?), which will give the Spurs plenty of incentive to give him another nice contract, especially if he continues to progress over the years and pulls in a few more rings.

21 - Manu is a tough call. He is, no doubt, one of our franchise players and will probably always be identified by that. Considering what he has already accomplished (a championship his rookie season and an olympic gold after his sophmore), he is sure to do wonders for our club over the long course of his new contract and that will make him a Spur in the eyes of most people for all time. The real problem arises when you look at Manu's contract. His current run with the Spurs ends when he is something like 34, which may dissuade the Spurs organization from offering him another full contract. This could ultimately send Manu from San Antonio for the tail of his career, since he hardly seems like the type to retire at 35. However, I still believe if Manu can bring in a couple more championships, his spot in the rafters is just as assured as Tim's.

31 - If Malik can actually dodge the trade hooks for another 6 years and finish his career with this franchise, than he deserves to be retired just for his persistence. :lol

17 - Brent's identity with this team really depends upon his success in the upcoming couple years. He has already stated that he is beocming more and more comfortable within his role on the team and in San Antonio. If this team has any trace of success within the next 3 years, I don't see any reason why Brent shouldn't want to finish his career here. Stick in some timely threes here and there come playoff time, and he'll have made his case for a number retirement as well.

Yes, for that team it is the same. There is an example in baseball, and only one example, of retiring a number for all teams. #42 in honor of Jackie Robinson and his impact on breaking down the race barriers in sport in the United States.
