Trying to connect Rock Band 2 !?!?!?

I'm trying to set up Rock Band 2 on 360 for my little cousin but it's not working. I pressed the connect button on both the wireless guitar and drums but neither do anything.

Yeah I did all the above, after 20 tries it worked finally.
