DJ Strawberry got waived from the Rockets, sign him up and buy out Vaughn. :pctoss
As a result we'll have the DJ and the Hill fighting for the back up PG position. We'll have some youth and alot of potential in our back court.

so you want 2 unprovens to backup tony instead of having at least 1 veteran. potential is all well and good but you still need a reliable fallback if potential turns into a dud.

I think DJ's a good player. I'm not sure how he manages not to stick anywhere.
That said, if the Spurs are going to buy out JV, I'd much prefer they did it for a legit shot blocker or defensive long three.
If JV gets shipped out (how isn't the point here) where is the experience at backup PG that Pop needs/wants? Not going to happen. As much as we Spur fans want more younth of this aging team I can't see Pop having 2 young inexperienced PG's behind TP. As stated previously the Spurs run a motion O and a complex D - how are these two guys going to pick this up and be able to give TP the rest needed during the season much less come playoff time? IMO this would be a recipe for disaster seeing how I think TP would end up playing more minutes - either b/c the backups don't get the job done or Pop feels uncomfortable playing them exended minutes - though personally I'm not a fan of JV but what realistic option do we have to fill his slot?
That Pop would sign on to that is.

You got to start somewhere. I can guarantee you that it will be more of a success then the JV, Hill combo. C'mon let's get serious here J.V brings nothing to the table. Plus you won’t have J.V taking Hill’s minutes. We’ll at least have two solid back up PG that will bring something to table. So we can only get better as a result.

Tony Parker started PG as a rookie, it's not like we need these guys to start, all we need from them is a solid 10-15 minutes a game and they're only going to get better as the season goes on. Any one would be an up grade over Vaughn. Come on, it's common sense.

m33po does.
And besides, our real need right now is a long, athletic 3. That is what Bonner should be traded for, if possible.

The Suns cut him because they signed Dragic becasuse they think he's Nash's future replacement and the Rockets cut D.J because of the emergence of Von Wafer. That's two unfortunate situations and any Rocket or Suns fan will say the D.J has been unlucky.

Regardless of circumstance, the fact remains that two teams who have yet to get over the hump and are looking for that extra push to attain the championship did not consider him for their team.
I'm still not seeing your argument for him.

NBA scouts and coaches are pretty good. Players who get repeatedly cut and manage to make a success out of themselves are pretty rare. Besides Avery Johnson and Bruce Bowen and maybe even Mario Elie, who else out there has managed to make it under those circumstances ?
He's got to be lacking something to make him stick. Not basketball smart ? Lazy ? Unwilling to play D ? Sense of entitlement ? Who knows ? Maybe he's just average.

He plays D and will hustle for loose balls, but his shot is inconsistent.

My argument is the D.J has a lot of potential and he'll be a far better upgrade over Vaughn. If Hill is playing poorly then he'll be replaced by someone that actually brings something to the table and I can save myself from :bang because ill never have to see J.V in a Spurs uniform again.
D.J's shot according to the Franchise is inconsistent but we all know that it won't be worse than Vaughn's and his shot is only going to improve. C'mon it's not hard, Vaughn is too old. It's time he left, we certainly won't miss him anyway. Replace him with some one that can actually score the ball.

We are arguing Strawberry for Vaughn's roster spot? If we are going talk about that, we should talk about how Mason could play some 3rd string point and we could use that spot on something useful...like a real life shot blocking center.

:lmao:lmao. What sport are you watching? Have you watched D.J play? Vaughn is the worst shooter I’ve ever seen. The Spurs need to get younger and this is the way to go, D.J can score that's what we need and that's what he brings. If you haven't noticed we're team that goes through ridiculous offensive droughts and if we have the D.J instead of J.V we can at least have a shot of ending those offensive droughts.

Bottom Line: I'll take D.J over Vaughn any day. At least when Pop makes makes a sub for Parker we wouldn't have someone that does more harm than good comin on. Also if Hill gets introduced to the doghouse we'll have a talent back up PG on the court. Hill and DJ combo is way better than the J.V, Hill combo. It's simple if it were to happen the Spurs will be a better team. I can drink to that :toast but i dont know about you.

How? JV has better shooting averages than DJ. And DJ is probably 1/10 the defender JV is... Not to mention JV already knows the system and Pop basically does not play anybody that does not.
