The electoral college elects the president, the popular vote tells that president what kind of mandate he/she has. If someone is basing the mandate on an overwhelming win in the electoral college, then they are doing so only because the electoral college generally reflects the popular vote

There's no need for illegal votes to dump the Republicans out of office; people are fed up with their crap. Registering voters that don't vote doesn't mean jackshit. You think your guns will be just fine... The supreme court barely kept those guns in your hand a few months ago with a 5-4 vote and since 5 justices are 70 and another one is 69 -- rest assured that Obama will have the opportunity to name several justices to the court... It is likely that Stevens, Scalia, Kennedy, Ruth Bader and maybe Breyer could be off the court in an Obama term. Granted only Scalia and Kennedy have any bearing but those will be two crucial conservative votes lost.

This has been a democratic run congress for 2+ years and they have not done anything at all - with single digit approval ratings. Lord help us all if they get a super majority.

The shift in tide can make it closer and helps towards the national popular vote if the situation calls for it.
