A second poll released in the last 24 hours confirms that the 6th Congressional District contest is extremely close less than two weeks before election day. According to the poll released today by Minnesota Public Radio, 45 percent of those surveyed support Democratic challenger Elwyn Tinklenberg, while 43 percent favor incumbent Republican Michele Bachmann. MPR surveyed 430 likely voters and the poll had a +/- 4.7 percent margin of error.

SurveyUSA found nearly identical results in a poll released last night. The survey, commissioned by KSTP (Channel 5) gauged Tinklenberg’s support at 47 percent and Bachmann’s at 44 percent. SurveyUSA tapped 700 registered voters and the poll had a +/- 4.0 margin of error

Both narrow leads for the Democrat are statistically insignificant. But the polls confirm the widespread assumption that Bachmann’s recent “anti-American” gaffe, coupled with Tinklenberg’s dramatic uptick in fundraising, has fundamentally altered the race. Just a week ago the incumbent was widely assumed to be cruising to re-election.

Perhaps tellingly the “In the News” feature on Bachmann’s web site, which trumpets an 11-point polling lead for the Republican, has not been updated since prior to her Hardball blowup.

I hope Tinklenburg wins. Mainly, because I don't see how he can be any worse than that unholy bitch Bachmann. That's why I threw some money in on the big DKos "get Bachmann the F out of there" drive.

If Dem turnout is high in Minnesota (and I think it will be given its swing state status), Tinklenburg will probably eek out a close win.

So, what did this Bachmann woman do to earn the hatred of Obama's masses?

She basically called Obama an "anti-american".

The most direct quote I can recall is: "We need to know the extent of his anti-american views".

She then went on to say that the media needed to investigate members of congress to see "who held anti-american views".

Quite frankly, Republicans in general calling anybody who is less than giddily enthusiastic about our country, and anybody who dares to criticize anything as being "anti-american" or a "traitor" really really chaps my hide.

People like Bachmann have this "mommy/daddy can do no wrong" love for their country, in a manner similar to how 2 year olds view their parents.

Anybody who has the maturity to question whether something we might do is ethical or moral become "anti-american".

She has said some other rather wingnutty things, but this was on national TV.

The insinuation that Democrats are "anti-american" in general pisses a lot of people off, myself included. I am tired of having my patriotism questioned.

I don't think that Democrats are anti-American, but I do think that someone that disagrees with their country to the point that they're bombing government buildings is pretty much anti-American.

Congratulations! Did you watch the interview? She said Obama might be anti-american and that the media should investigate who in Congress is also anti-american. Remind you of anything from say the 1950s???

I agree, but Obama never has done any of those things, nor has he ever advocated those things, nor has he ever even implicitly condoned them, or done anything other than denouncing them.

For the most part that was probably simple election-year rhetoric (although the more you read about this chick the less likely it seems) but many, many Democrats are just as tired as I am about being considered unpatriotic by people like Bachmann.

Are self-proclomations about what is and is not "American", really what our country is about?
