Any of you attending any and if so what are you dressing as?
At my job at the mall, we are allowed to wear a costume on the 31st. I am going to dress as a Lady Bug.
It has been a long work week, but I wouldn't take tomorrow off with pay even if it was offered to me ( which it wouldn't be), because I am really looking forward to being in costume on the clock. :)
Then tomorrow night, the youth program at my church is having a costume party and I am going as a Butterfly.

One of the tree huggers of this forum reported the picture to Photobucket.

My kids went to Christian schools before we moved to Texas. They didn't allow Halloween celebrations, but always put on a "Harvest festival" or "Fall festival" to coincide; I suppose so the kids won't feel left out.

My dad is a Pastor of a church and he always has a little festival set up for the kids. He doesn't like the fact that they would be left out otherwise. He says when he was a kid he got to do all that stuff and the parents did too so why deprive the kids. It's funny because most of the kids dress as biblical characters.

I am aware that many churches have fall-type festivals for little children, but I was surprised they condoned the secular costume-wearing that clearly relates to Halloween. Some churches have them dress as Biblical characters or even as Saints for All Saints' Day.
Add on the fact that this is not even a child's event, so it suprised me they would do it- having a secular costume party for adults for Halloween!

I think they are trying to encourage everyone to fellowship with each other and have fun in a wise way.
The costumes are to be modest and non mystical- no witches, or fairies etc.
There will be food and soda, but of course no alcohol- something which is unfortunately present at a lot of teen parties.
The reality is that teens are likely to make plans to attend some sort of Halloween party.
So, which is better- for the church to insist on completely boycotting the holiday or for them to provide an acceptable alternative type event?
I think that is for each church and each Christian to decide.
I could make an argument for both cases.

Also the youth have the opportunity to bring friends of theirs from school to this party.
A lot of people will say no to coming to Saturday night church but will say yes to a costume party, even one at a church.
Who knows how many kids will so enjoy our party tonight that they are then willing to give church tomorrow night a try.

Anyone going as a horse?
Every year and everyone rides me about it.
Halloween isn't cool until you get to the point where it's like all of the women are subconsciously having a competition with themselves to see who can put on the least clothing and still have it qualify as a costume.
Until that point it's just like a pillowcase full or free candy or another excuse to get fucked up on psychedelic drugs.
