That is an all time classic pic of Mouse.

Why does trouble follow Duel so closely of late? Dude just can't get a break.

pooh
02-17-2005, 05:23 PM
If you go to that site, and click on the previous columns on what's been going on, it makes it more and more interesting.

Duel needs to just come clean and apologize to Ricci Ware about the incident. Otherwise, he's going to end up like he did over at WOAI. That's what happens when you let the inmates run the aslyum.

Well Apparently Duel and Crew won't admit they're sorry...

Why Won't KTSA Personel
Apologize For Phone-In Fakery?

Because They're Not Sorry

550 'Undergrounders' In Their Own Words
RG Griffing, SAL Commentary

Vomit, drugs and rock-n-roll.

That's what you missed, if you didn't catch Chris Duel's "Show" Monday.

KTSA managers continue to stonewall about the weird goings-on in their PM talk show.

At least one phony phone call was inadvertently admitted to by host Duel in an internet forum apparently sanctioned by the CBS/Infinity-owned station. An examination of that website has yielded more about the new direction that KTSA is taking.

More about that later. But first...

Duel began his Monday show by encouraging his side-kick, Ruben "The Bone," to vomit on the air.

Then, in an overblown tribute to dope-advocate/writer Hunter S Thompson, who suicided Sunday, Duel featured the famous opening lines from Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.

"We were just outside of Barstow when the drugs kicked in."

Duel raved about it.

Senior KTSA reporter Michael Board allowed that Thompson demonstrated "what Journalism should be about."

A later interview with a Thompson associate began with the declaration that the guest had just moments before "smoked a doobie" in honor of Thompson.

Later, "The Bone" asked Duel: "Are you stoned?"

Many other drug references -- even music about dope -- were offered up by the host.

Now that's entertainment.

Of course, it is easy to see where Duel is going with his trashy approach.

His latest arbitron ratings are weak, and it is now glaringly obvious that he will do anything to get attention. KTSA is clearly giving him a free hand. In seeming desperation he is attempting to become yet another Howard Stern. Underline attempting.

Why is the SA Lightning going out of their way to trash Duel?

TastesLikeChicken
02-23-2005, 03:13 AM
How is this even a story?

Fake calls are simply part of radio, Just some more subtle than others. A friend of mine in DC makes a living as a professional "caller" He's paid to call 7 or 8 shows a day (many of which are popular nationally syndicated shows) and make the show interesting.

pooh
02-23-2005, 03:24 AM
If you click on that link and go to other articles about it, you'll see the whole story.

Apparently when the phony caller called in (topic of that day was honesty in media) host Ricci Ware didn't know what was going on.

Then, the lightning began posting articles on it, using transcripts from the 550 underground message board. Even going as far as to put the real people's names behind their screen names on there.

All Duel has to do is just come clean and apologize, question is...well he?

MannyIsGod
02-23-2005, 03:31 AM
WTF?

It's a SHOW. Apologize for what? Did you want an apology when you found out the Blair Witch Project wasn't real?

The Lighting is posting posts from the site when the site is simply a playground. Give me a fucking break.

MannyIsGod
02-23-2005, 03:42 AM

Why is the SA Lightning going out of their way to trash Duel?

Because Griffing has a hard on for Carl Wigglesquit. I think the fro turns him on, or maybe it's the bbq...I'm not exactly sure.

Dude has been bitter and broken since the day that old blue hair was shit-canned by KTSA and wants nothing more than to see Comedy Boy working as a greeter in a Wal-Mart on the west side.

Pooh,
Get a life ! It's talk radio, not bible study. People tune in so they can hear something interesting and edgy. If they wanted boring they would listen to Wiglesworth and his tin-foil hat society. If I want someone to preach the evils of society to me then I will go to church (which I do). When I turn on the radio, I am making a CHOICE to hear free speech and discussion that is interesting and sometimes very important and often presented in a fun and light hearted style. Chris Duel's show rocks !!
As far as the SAL article goes, you could take excerpts from anyone's show out of context and make them look bad. RG Griffing and Carl Wiglesworth are just little bitter people with an axe to grind. Don't be suckered by them. What did they do offer you an interview for your book in exchange for promoting their propaganda in here? Inquiring minds want to know?

^RACK^ 2Blonde excellent post, To bad you don't post here more often,

I was told not to comment on this topic when the story broke, And out of respect for Chris Duel VTS , and Kori? I did as I was instructed.

I had no idea how much Pooh hated Chris. Kinda makes sense now when I think about some of the new screen names at the 550 Underground,

Dude Almente ,and DizzG, have both banned me more than one also, And I don't wake up mad at them in the morning, You must really hold a grudge, But who knows what goes on in your head, Maybe you should write a book about it.

ASF That was funny, And BigSnack you kill me with he does not look bitter comment, As for the answer to Kori's Question? Kori The Lightning is in bed with La Prensa News paper and you know who writes for them..Think about it, when was the last time you dusted?

I didn't write the article 2Blonde. I find it very interesting and humorous. Yeah I have some bitter ill feelings for some of the people over at the 550 Underground, but that's my business and no one else's. I've hardly ever listened to Duels' show, it's not my type of show actually. Neither have I listened to Wigglesworth either. Although I recently had a chance to work at the new station Wigglesworth and Sonneland will be starting up in a few weeks though.

But to answer the last part of your quote, if I was offered an interview for my book in exchange for something...who knows? Everyone has a price.

Oh Mouse...I don't "hate" Duel.

Congrats Chris - you finally got a real job when you were 40, you have yet to figure out the amazing mysteries that is HTML, you've written a bunch of books that noone has read, you were an embarrassment to WOAI - which got you canned - and now you are an embarrassment to KTSA.

Dude I don't think a room full of Hookers and a case of viagra could keep you up.

you have yet to figure out the amazing mysteries that is HTML, you've written a bunch of books that noone has read,

Comparing him to pooh is just harsh...

you were an embarrassment to WOAI

Dude your buddy Wiggles worth walk off the live radio show how come you don't talk about that?

-
which got you canned

Canned? How about moving on? look at Howard Stern, he knows when to leave also.

-
and now you are an embarrassment to KTSA.

Says who? your friend at the lightning? I remember they said Jim Carey was an Embarrassment to the show in living color, look at him now...

Keep setting the example for San Antonio's youth.

You might have a point, since today's youth can't trust there Pot smoking President they might as well tune into an AM radio station in search of role models,, you crack me up :lmao

why not just meet Duel or call the show if you hate him so?

MrSoccer was the name. Good times.

Mr., Soccer? I don't think so, that guy was always cool with me. He would never put me on his Ignore list. I went to bat for that ass hole and it cost me many friends. besides he was funny and had good smack talk.

the only way you can prove it is by telling me his other screen name..

2pac
02-25-2005, 03:50 AM
Other screen name? I made a few just to make fun of Logan and his crew. I cant even remember them now. TCAMS was probably one.

I dont know anyone at lightning or WOAI or KTSA. I live in Houston, and before that lived in SA.

Funniest comic? His books havent made it to Amazon, his stage bit was never more than penis jokes in smokey bars (his own admission) and I have never heard him be all that funny on the radio. He agrees with what people say, then tries to step it up to be polarizing to get more calls.

NeoConIV
02-25-2005, 03:59 AM
Chris is a real nice guy, I think he's always looking out for the small guy in life...but I really don't think his future in radio is looking very good. KTSA was a lone outpost in radio netherland during a period of unbridled WOAI dominance with Duel. It doesn't seem that to me that Duel has been very successful in reviving KTSA. The competition is pretty stiff. Hardcore Sports on the Ticket and then Savage on KLUP? That's a tough road to hoe for some decent marketshare. I wish Duel the best, but I just don't see it working out long term.

NameDropper
02-25-2005, 08:18 AM
I like Duel's show because it offers different views not just the conservative right view that you get on WOAI or KLUP. Savage is a right-wing whacko.

Yesterday Duel had all 3 SA mayor candidates on his show. Good stuff.

NeoConIV
02-25-2005, 09:41 AM
That's the same reason I like Duel's show. Ruben and Chris know San Antonio and it's good to get their take on the local issues. I still haven't warmed to Michael Bolton yet. There's just something about him that's annoying to me...

But again, the competition is stiff, I think the Thompson brothers are massively knowledgable and entertaining. I guess I listen to them the most on my drive home.

JoeChalupa
02-25-2005, 12:19 PM
I listen to Duel's show on the way home but I also listen to Don Harris' talking point on the the Ticket.
I'll flip-flop over to Bolton so I can hear his conservative view but he's been cool when I've called his show to give the view from a conservative liberal.

MannyIsGod
02-25-2005, 01:32 PM
