Thanks Manu for playing in the olympics and aggravating the injury to your ankle. Since it's an impingement, and all the rest in the world wasn't going to make it better, you might have gone through the summer and through training camp before aggravating it, and then you'd still have to get the surgery and you'd be out until after the all-star break.

Thank you, Manu, for playing in the Olympics and aggravating your injury then instead of unknowingly returning to the Spurs only to aggravate your injury in pre-season or early in the regular season and having to be out even longer.

edit: dammit, basically said what Obstructed View said. I should read posts before posting.

And, that's fine. He technically wasn't obligated to listen to Pop regarding that anyway. So, "respectfully" not listening to Pop has nothing to do with anything.

Even though you are specifically talking about Manu the underlying take is basically that all NBA players should not play in the Olympics since if injured they can't perform their primary duties for their respective teams and fans. That just isn't going to happen. Stern is adamant about that and no NBA team can forbid their palyers from participating in the games. Cuban made basically the same point and the NBA FO politely told him to STFU IIRC. International expansion, especially the merchandising end of it, is one of Stern's pet projects. He has made tons of money on it and wont jeopardize it by allowng NBA teams to forbid it's players from participating in the Olympics thereby alienating the foreign markets and. "Money talks and BS walks"

Anyway O_V made the point many have already stated that Manu's ankle was a ticking time bomb which was going to explode at any given moment. Better to have it happen in the offseason, have surgery and come back and be able to play rather than having the possibility of it going out during the middle of the season and missing the playoffs.

In hindsight this acutally is a good thing for the Spurs and Manu. Now when he comes back he'll have had avioided at lest 6 - 8 weeks of NBA wear and tear making him fresher come playoff time. Or at least that is the hope.

thanks for making such a dumbass post mrs spurs... let's break it down.

you're trying to call out manu by throwing shit in his face and then want to say how much you miss him on the court? fuckin' retarded.

these are the facts. spurs are down 0-2 and it doesn't really matter that much at this point even if manu had played in those games. it's the 1st week for christs sake.

on another note, manu needed surgery for a long time now and i see this as finally doing what has needed to be done type of situation. if it weren't the olympics it'd be the middle of the season. better now then later.

anyhow, manu keep doing what you're doing hombre. you're a fuckin' warrior.

No players from top-tier NBA teams should be allowed to play any non-NBA basketball.

Team USA winning at the Olympics is hardly an accomplishment when you really think about it.

It is if you payed attention to the gold medal game. The world is catching up quick. The original dream team wasn't anything to talk about, they had no one to play against.

That would make it difficult to get international players. To the international players, the NBA championship is small compared to the Olympics and the World's. If you draft or acquire a top international player, you sometimes get a great bargain but at the same time, you have to deal with them playing for their country.

In a way, you cheat the draft when you get an international player. Top guys like Manu and Parker would have been Top 10 draft selections if they had played in the US. But because they didn't they were late first and second rounders.

The world competition has really stepped up as well. The Spaniards have a damn good team as do the Argentinians (although Argentina is on their downside due to age).

And I think after this last summer, with all the public interest, the Olympic championship will start meaning something to the American players as well.

How about write a stupid ass thank you letter to the jackass GM. That keeps giving all of our good players and draft picks up to our rival teams? Scola, Josh Howard possibly getting Barbosa and giving him away to the Suns. Cutting Salim Stoudamire...I could go on and on but it does me no good, just makes me even more upset..I say we just need to get Ginobili back heathy, let Salim get heathy and re-sign him? Because he is the piece to the puzzle that we need!! Someone who can create his own shots and is a very good three point shooter. Then get Ginobili back around that time and domminate!!!:lobt::lobt::lobt::lobt::lobt2::flag:

Geez, people are already bitching about being 0-2? It's two freaking games. It isn't like we are at the end of the season trying to fight for a playoff spot. If anyone thought this season was going to be gravy, then they really don't know basketball. I like that the Spurs are having to face early difficulty. It is better than having to face it late in the season. This can only help them get used to trusting and playing with each other. You can't rely on your stars all the time. This is the time for these role players to step up and prove themselves. It isn't going to happen overnight.

Have you people been watching the games? I'm the biggest Manu fan on the planet but I don't think his absence had too much to do with these two losses. Offense hasn't been the problem, the Spurs have scored enough points to be 2-0. Their defense and rebounding has sucked.

Bowen and Thomas have been flat out awful and guys like Bonner and Finley aren't helping on D either.
