Yes, we're all aware that number of copies sold means it's a superior game. Madden >>> GoW with that logic. :rolleyes

It's not a shock GoW is outselling Resistance with the hype machine behind it, not to mention the number of X360s out there.

But that's really 360's last card up it's sleeve, right? Unless Halo 3: Recon REALLY surprises, that's about it for exclusive "must-have" titles for a while.

I'm not hating. I'm sure GoW2 is freaking fantastic, and so is R:2. But it will be interesting to see that with the last of the major titles out for a while how the console war starts to shake down. If Sony can close the gap a bit before Christmas '09, we could see a very interesting war develop for the remaining exclusive titles.

On the other hand, if the Ps3 stays expensive, doesn't add any more must-haves beyond FFXIII, and doesn't do anything significant to renew interest, it could mean the final blow which would at least give the 360 a win over the Ps3, if not the Wii.

Remember, the Ps2 alone sold 140,000,000 worldwide. Right now we have about 65,000,000 consoles purchased of the three "next-gen" systems. Even if EVERYONE who owned an xbox (~25 million) and a Gamecube (~25 million) bought a Ps2 (and I didn't, long story), that still leaves a wide open market of gamers who haven't stepped up yet. Even with a conservative estimate, say 110 million adopt a new system, it's upwards of 50 million who have yet to buy a new console.

Basically right now it's on Sony. Microsoft has played it's ace hand, and they're winning (though the Wii is probably still going to sell more this holiday season), and if Sony doesn't knuckle down and answer with several must-haves (here's looking at you, Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear 5, FFXIII), it could be over for Sony as a game company and as a company, period.

Right now though, the gamers are winning. We have competition like we've never seen before with no clear front-runner. And don't forget about the PC. It is by no means finished. Gears 2 looks good but it's not as technically astute as Crysis, which is going to remain the benchmark for "holy shit, look at this" for quite a while. As much as I love my Ps3 and have fun with my friend's 360, nothing compares to the PC experience for me yet. Especially where FPSs are concerned.

The Sixaxis controllers that launched with the PS3 were much lighter because they didn't have vibration, but otherwise identical to the PS2 controllers. Now that they've got wireless Dual-Shocks for the PS3, they're exactly the same. Best controllers of any system, as far as I'm concerned, but now wireless and rechargeable.

I was talking more about the console itself feeling cheap, though. The PS3 is probably a little too big and heavy, but it feels much sturdier. Doesn't help that, within about ten seconds of taking the 360 out of the box, my 16-year-old sister lightly touched one of the memory card slots with her pinky and it broke off inside the machine.

I will give them credit for having great range. I played a PS3 from about 80 feet away one time and it still worked correctly. They still felt really fragile though.

After the Dual-Shocks on the PS2, it took me a while to get used to how light the Sixaxis controllers are. Dropped them enough times to know they're sturdy, though.

now i know blueray players are expensive but why buy a console and not play games on it? did you really buy it for just the blueray capabilities? and if so can you really tell that much of a difference from dvd to blueray because if your naked eye can't then you just wasted a buttload of money and could've just gone out and bought a $30 dvd player that could also play DivX and whatnot.

I don't buy Blu-ray for every movie. However, some movies are worth paying the extra for, for the (much) better picture and sound. I wouldn't buy a movie like Dark Knight on DVD. For comedies or movies that don't demand a "wow" effect, DVD is fine.

At the very least, it's nice to have the option of buying Blu-ray, and having a great gaming system to boot.

I feel like this is the generation of "good" consoles. There are no stellar standouts. The Wii is the most user-friendly, has by far the best party factor, and has a few absolutely stellar titles... and not much else. It's game library is choked, and it is very graphically limited.

The 360 is a fantastic online experience, clearly better than the Ps3 or the Wii and currently has the best library of games with great graphics. Normally these would be enough to secure any system a lock to win the console war, however, the RRoD plague hurt the 360 as much as anything could have.

The Ps3 has has similar graphics to the 360, supports Blu-Ray, is a rock-steady system that has an extremely low failure rate, and has a smaller library of stellar, exclusive titles. However, the caveat here is obviously the gaming library doesn't compare yet to the 360s, and the online experience, while improving, still doesn't compare to Xbox Live.

So all three systems have reasons they're great and all three have reasons they suck.

Which is why I still favor PC over any console. Fast, stable, graphics that are far ahead of anything the other three are capable of, and still the best online experience around. Not only that, but the user interface is miles ahead of even the best controller for a console. For several genres, console shouldn't even be an option. I can't get over trying to play CoD4 with a joystick. It's just awful.

how is that movie in hd when hd wasn't around back when that was filmed? i don't get it.

the only time i notice anything of a difference in hd is with sports... movies i can tell on some but overall it doesn't matter to me either way because i don't 1) buy dvd's or blu-ray discs, 2) don't care how sharp a blade of grass is on the screen, and 3) it just ain't worth the money to buy a blu-ray player right now unless you buy the ps3 and i already have an xbox360 so i won't be purchasing a ps3.
