View Full Version : Official 2008 Election Day Thread

This should be an interesting and most likely historical day. Hopefully everyone who wants to vote will have the ability to vote today. I'm planning to vote at ~11AM.

I guess to kill the time between now and we start hearing some sort of actual news, we'll make our official last predictions. Pick the Presidential winner and how many electoral votes they will receive. Correct prediction gets a spur and tie-breaker will be decided by who posts first. Ends at 1PM central.

I'll pick Obama @ 320 EVs.

When does the voting starts on the east coast and when does it end in the west?

When does the voting starts on the east coast and when does it end in the west? Some East Coast polls are already open. If they aren't opened yet, they'll be opened within the hour. West Coast I think most remain open until 9PM central.

So we are in for a long day, unless Obama picks up some historically red East Coast states. Even then, with the way the networks F'ed up in 2000 and to a lesser degree 2004, I'm guessing they'll wait until California is called before declaring a winner.

Canvas captains are now making phone calls to the canvas volunteers they have assigned to them. We're doing this to make sure that they're going to be here at 9 to start the GOTV efforts and to find out which precients will be short due to flakes or miscommunication.

At 9 we do small individual trainings with the canvassers then we hit the road and start hitting targeted voters to make sure they get out and vote.

Today's Polls, 11/3 (PM Edition)

With fewer than six hours until voting begins in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, the national polling picture has cleared up considerably. Barack Obama is on the verge of a victory, perhaps a decisive victory, in the race for the White House.

The national polls have all consolidated into a range of roughly Obama +7. That is right about where our model sees the race as well, giving Obama a 6.8 point advantage in its composite of state and national polling. Our model notes, however, that candidates with large leads in the polls have had some tendency to underperform marginally on election day, and so projects an Obama win of 6.0 points tomorrow.

Based on the polls he CAN get more, and I hope he does, but I think 322 is a good estimate.

I'd have to double check, but I think 322 is if he wins Ohio, Missouri, Virginia, New Mexico, and Colorado, but loses Florida, North Carolina, Indiana, and Nevada. Out of these, the state I feel I'm most likely to miss on is Nevada.
