I'm not entirely certain how DVI technology works, thoug I've read enough to know its better than normal VGA. Problem is, down here in Argentina, LCD monitors with DVI are usually a good 100 to 150 bucks more.

My question is, when it comes to higher resolution monitors (22", 24", 26"), is it worth the money?

Yes.

Specially the larger ones.

VGA is an analogue connections, while the signal in the PC is generated from a digital buffer, it was displayed on a CRT which is an analogue technology - so VGA was a good solution. With LCDs you essentially have two digital devices connected by an analogue cable which is stupid and introduces additional processing (Digital to analogue and then back to digital) which damages the picture itself. The larger the screen the more obvious the artifacts created by this are obvious.

(I oversimplified the technical part a little)
