View Full Version : Trade Parker

Okay, don't get too defensive yet guys... it's pretty obvious that we lack the firepower to get a lot of wins without ginobili, and I think that sending tony parker to portland for Rudy Fernandez, Nicolas Batum, and Travis Outlaw might seem like a pretty good trade. Any thoughts and/or ideas?
angelbelow
11-05-2008, 02:58 AM
its a pretty fair trade, but you have to factor in duncan and ginobili's prime. this trade would be essentially wasting it. i have tough time swallowing that. on the flip side, this trade would add significant depth for both the present and more noticeably in the future.
parker is likely the future of this team at 26, so thats another problem.
Xylus
11-05-2008, 02:59 AM
That is NOT a fair trade. I turn it down if I'm the Blazers.
Ice009
11-05-2008, 03:10 AM
I think it's a fair trade right now as Parker is a lot better than all those guys. If they all were to reach their potential and then the trade was on the table it would not be a fair trade.
sexinthatsx
11-05-2008, 03:12 AM
exactly what i was thinking. Portland's a deep team, but some of those players will have to go sooner or later, there's NO way portland will be able to resign all of those guys. We're strictly gambling Parker with potential right now, and this trade like angelbelow said could make our bench significantly stronger for the years to come

Parker is a proven player, and relatively young. He would definitely make Portland an even better team. But Rudy, Batum, and Troutlaw have shown flashes of greatness, and the Blazers should do everything they can to keep them.

And none of them may ever get to Parker's level. Parker may not have gotten to Parker's best level yet.

Aside from Parker, include JV and Boner. That should seal the deal.:downspin:

if we include JV and Bonner, they should throw in Sergio Rodriguez too. We can have a argentina combo with manu and oberto along with the spanish connection with sergio and rudy!
JamStone
11-05-2008, 04:22 AM
Not fair for Portland. They lose all their small forward depth and a lot of athleticism on the wing. And, they add a point guard without trading one of their three away, so now their stuck with four point guards and one small forward (Webster) who really is more of a 2-guard and doesn't provide the same athleticism or explosiveness as Outlaw and Batum.
It would be one thing to ask for two of those players, but all three is too much for Portland to give up.
Maybe Batum, Bayless, Blake, and Frye for Parker if it worked financially.
Ice009
11-05-2008, 04:43 AM
Nope Batum and Fernandez at a minimum. That's two small forwards of unknown potential for 1 of the top 5 point guards in the NBA. Probably asking for Outlaw too is a bit much, but those other two would have to be the minimum before I start to listen.
No way I would trade Parker for Batum, Bayless, Blake and Frye.

Batum, Bayless, Blake and Frye.
Four guys who have amounted to jack shit in the NBA, for a top 15 NBA player and a Finals MVP and 3 time Champion.
Spurs wouldnt do that. You have to throw in a guy who is a proven commodity, despite all the potential you may be getting.
Batum + Outlaw + Bayless

Come on guys, the little French is our best player, he is still young and could be dominant in this league, we only need some adjustment here and there, providing support to him and kicking his balls in those nights when he doesn't share the ball.

Then we would really suck. Im for getting rid of the guys who play once the season is over. Thats why we're 0-3 because of those Argentinians. Make all the trade gimmicks you want. But dont bring our spurs anymore players who will play at home once the season is over. Regardless if they're hurt or not.

IMO Parker is not going to be better in the future. He's not like Duncan or Manu.He doesn't have the same talent.Speed and quickness are his better skills and these skills are not going to improve with age.Maybe he's not much better shooter than when he was 22-23 and I'm not sure if he knows better the game than when he was young.
Obviously we were better team with Manu at point last year when Parker was injured than now without Manu
Trade Parker could be great right now to be in the top again at least 2-3 years more.In the future with an older TD and Manu there is not important if Parker still playing in the team because we will be lottery team.Parker is not Lebron James or Kobe Bryant to built a team around him.
But if I trade Parker right now we could add more bench or some young players to be a better team
Wiht POR -Roy and Aldridge for Parker,Oberto,Udoka?
With IND -Granger,Ford,Foster for Parker,Oberto??
With CHI -Gordon,Hinrich,Nocioni for Parker,Mason??
With NJ -Harris,Brook Lopez for Parker??
with PHI -Dalembert,Andre miller for Parker??
with PHI -Green,Iguodala for Parker??
........
Of course that's only fantasy and we never trade Parker. But I believe that we could be better team with some of this trades than with Parker.
Really I don't want to trade Parker but right now it's the only player of the roster that we could trade to get some good players and right now we need a lot to win the NBA.TD is the best of the world to me and Manu is amazing but I'm not sure if we could get the same for them than for Parker because they are old

I think we are at a point where we will get addition by subtration. There is no way that Bonner, Vaughn, Finley or even Thomas will help this team over the course of the year. Their age and or inability to move their feet will spell the doom for the Spurs. Ask McCain. He couldn't move his feet fast enough either.

mmmm interesting thought. I would think about trading either Parker or Ginobili. Since Parker's trade value is higher, we could get a pretty decent player.
But who?

11-05-2008, 09:02 AM
I think the only goal we should have is to win another title before Duncan decline or retire. After the trade you propose this would not be possible IMO (unless Hill can prove he can start at PG). I am afraid we have to live and die with that team and hope our role player step up.
If you don't think we can win another title with that team, the more reasonable would be to trade Duncan to a team loaded with talent. (I don't want this)

I'd say an emphatic NO to all of those suggestions. Talent-wise, the portland deal makes sense for the Spurs, but Aldridge would force Duncan to play center and he doesn't want to. As for NJ - isn't Devin Harris just TP light? Why would you want to trade TP for someone who's ceiling is a generic version of TP? Tony, Tim, and even Roger Mason are not the problem this year.
Just think, none of this would be happening if that MFing Tiago Splitter would have just come over as planned lol :bang

Ok, and Portland laughs and hangs up the phone.
My thoughts EXACTLY i would consider more Bayless and Batum or Outlaw
Not any 3 and no way I get rid of Fernandez he does have some Manu like qualities ...
Portland will NOT be able to keep all these guys my guess if im Portland the interest is in acquiring a PG to lead them but here is the problem parker's strength does not work with Roy or Oden beacuse his strength is pick n roll and driving the lane Roy would have the ball less and oden is no Dunca in pnr if i was defending pnr with Oden and Parker i congest the lane cuz Oden cant hit that shot ...Tim makes it deadly cuz he has range ...
If im Blazers I build around Roy, Aldrige, Oden, Batum and determine if Bayless is a true point if he is...I would trade Outlaw & draft picks (great mid-range athleticism and do they need anymore young talent?) for a veteran gaurd
If he is not I package both guys and draft picks to get the best pg i could make somone an offer they COULD not refuse and i still would have the 1st 5 and Webster to build around Blazers are DEEEEP!!! just too young ...

In 3 games TP averaged 26 pts for 34,8 mpg at .534 fg% with 6,3 assists! He is the third best scorer after 3 games and he has the same points per minute ratio than kobe 0,75. Sorry but right now I'm very happy with his performance, I don't understand the trade Parker thread, the Parker needs to setp up and all the complaining of some of you.

I agree with you, Tony Parker's a damn good player, but he's not a reliable player when it comes to being a team leader and building a team around him. Although that being the case, one of the reasons why I think that this trade is possible is because portland's a young team, and they're willing to give up some sacrifices in order to obtain an experienced playoff player to propel them into the next level. Portland is trading away 3 players (Nicolas, Rudy & Outlaw) with all potential compared to a finals MVP player in Tony Parker. I was just thinking about it last night... and this might be wishful thinking but if we're able to pull this trade off and don't do so hot this season we might be able to acquire a lottery pick and be back in the game in no time. I know that Tim Duncan and Ginobili's in their primes, but rebuilding is a part of a team and it's something we have to do sooner or later...

Hahahaha, wow.
The Indiana trade would be pretty sweet...but its never gonna happen and is kinda lopsided.
As for the Chicago trade...that wouldn't even come close to working out salary-wise.
The Spurs to raise money should have a "Be GM for a day" contest. I'd be pretty funny.

NO! A star for 3 Ok players? Firepower is not the problem, we lack rebounding, trans Defense and shot blocking none of those players provide what we need.
A trade needs to be made to get better up front, or if Ian comes on big that will solve the problem. I think Pops sees we need to make a move but he is waiting to see what Ian and KT are gonna be able to give us.
I say go after Williams from NJ or Wright from Miami, they would make the 5 and or 3 spots better and improve rebounding and defense. I would not be surprised to see the spurs tank this season and roll out strong next year with a younger supporting cast. Bowen, Kt, Bonner, Udoka are giving us nothing and Finley is playing too many mins.

Second, I just won't lose my time with you, I've done it already a few years ago....as you were already wishing to trade Parker...:sleep
Obviously you do not understand what it takes to build a team and a chemistry... and i still looking for what you bring to the table that might be interesting..
cheers and sorry for you to be in this "PRICELESS" situation

Another Silly Trade Idea!!!
Why can't people see the big three isn't going anywhere and leave it alone?
This BIG THREE (the real Big Three) has won three of the last six championships and were very close to repeating last year.
Boy....Spoiled Spurs Fans at it again!!! Yikes!!!

Forget about it. Parker has more proven upside than any of those guys. Point guards like TP dont come a dime a dozen. And on A last note I wouldnt want to play against him several times A year.

I'm going to bring this thread back up, because Sergio Rodriguez has hinted for a trade, so I'm going to go ahead and say bring us rudy, batum, outlaw, and sergio for tony parker, and we'll throw in JV and Bonner

There are too many posts early in this thread to quote them all. Everyone do themselves a favor and read the whole thing.

We beat the Bulls easily without hum yesterday, prompting Timvp to start an emo thread on how much he loves this team
Even Timvp thinks we sont need him to beat good teams

Not really. 2009 was a dreadful season because our team was odd and thin. Parker was was the only player with any trade value, so at the time the OPs trade isn't retarded at all.
Context is important.

What context ? Dude was hitting his prime and you wanted to trade him for Fernandez outlaw and Batum really? That was stupid and still is.

The point wasn't simply trade Parker for XXX. The point was "how can we improve this team?"
And dangling Parker's name, at the time, would have been our best shot.

Op discussion was Rudy nic and Travis I don't know what are you discussing here? Not saying it is not interesting to discuss Parker trades just saying that he was is so underrated that fans were ready to giving him up for freaking Calderon which was stupid 5 years ago and still is.

Best record with Timmy and Manu missing/sitting out for a bunch of games

I guess I interpreted it as we needed to improve and boaster our team. Not necessarily as we must trade Parker. He says that we lack the fire power to win etc etc.

TP should be in the running for regular season MVP with the way he has been playing. Sadly, he won't be but he has been a beast this season. Great bump

Ride Parker's jockstrap all you want, but 5 years ago, there were still people on this board requesting stupid trades by getting a lot in return for "Bonner and a 1st rounder" or something to that extent.
Take this into consideration before you go mouthing off: 5 years ago...
-Bowen was retiring
-Rudy Fernandez was expected to be the next Ginobili
-Nic Batum was exactly the lanky SF defender we needed with a ton of potential as well
-Sergio and Rudy had the "spanish connection" going
-MOST IMPORTANTLY, IT WAS A RIDICULOUS TRADE BECAUSE PORTLAND WOULD HAVE NEVER ACCEPTED IT...

TP was #5 in the MVP rankings last year. He's probably going to rank higher this year (#3 is a real possibility) and has the best shot so far in his career to make the All-NBA 1st team. I say finishing top 5 in the MVP race is being "in the running". I'm a huge TP fan but no way I wouldn't give the MVP to Lebron again. TP is a HOFer but Lebron is a legend.

I thought "Maybe Parker was going through a slump when this thread was made.."
But damn... Turns out he was going through the best season start of his life.
