View Full Version : Quit whining

I'm starting to agree that Spurs fans are the whiniest fans in the league. People saying we're done after losing 3 games, pathetic fans. So what, we're 0-3, what the hell is all the whining for? We're obviously missing our best player in Manu. One player being present on the court does make a difference, right? What if the Lakers started the season without Kobe, or the Mavs started without Dirk? Would it be such a damn travesty if either one of those two teams started 0-3? No. Yet everyone is acting like we're at full strength and 0-3. It's like last year. We started 17-3 with everyone there. Then for a large number of games after that, either Duncan, Parker, or Ginobili was out, and what happened? We SLOWED DOWN and dropped a few games. It happens. It doesn't mean that we're the worst Spurs team this decade, or that we're going to be a lottery team, or anything else like that. We played two very good, close games with Phoenix and Portland. With Oberto to grab one extra board in those games, that probably makes us 2-1.

We got younger, didn't we? And the fact is we weren't going to land anyone fantastic without parting with one of our guys. Mason and Hill look promising and these guys will come through for the Spurs this year.

If you're going to whine and complain about how we should trade Matt Bonner or how we're old and done (funny to read considering we just got rid of two old guys that weren't useful anymore, right?), then just quit posting here and be sure to jump back on the bandwagon in April.

Oh and we've got 8 consecutive junk teams coming up: Minnesota, Miami, New York, Milwaukee, Houston, Sacramento, Clippers, and Denver. That should help.

Without Manu we are capable of losing all of those games...

P.S. Houston and Denver are not junk teams.

Teams better than the Spurs (even with a healthy Manu):

Lakers
Hornets
Jazz
Suns
Mavericks
Rockets
Blazers

That leaves us with a possible 8th playoff seed.

Blazers and Suns are NOT better than us with Manu. no way, what the hell are you smoking? The Suns STILL can't play defense consistently, and the Blazers are too young.

Does anybody remember how many games seperated the #1 seed from the #8 seed in the 2007 WC playoffs? It was only a handful if I remember correctly.

The point is that the Spurs cannot afford to drop too many games this year (and they inevitably will drop 3 to 4 games against horrible teams even when Manu gets healthy) because they will be facing a 7 or 8 seed in the playoffs. The scary thing is that the West has gotten even better since 2007, so if they drop too many during Manu's absence plus some others when Manu comes back they could end up one and done in the playoffs---or not even making the playoffs at all.

The Spurs problems stretch to more than just missing Manu...their lack of defensive intensity and rebounding are the major culprits for their losses. There is legitimate reason to be concerned...

What makes you thnk we can't beat the Suns with a healthy Manu? We kick their ass every year..

I'm more worried about us losing so many games before Manu comes back that we're fighting for an 8 seed at the end of the season. I think we can beat any team, but our chances go down when the "road to the finals" is literally on the road every series.

Sad thing is Spews will really never know. Spews will finish with a low seed and get beat by one of the top 2-3 teams first round. Thats the best scenerio this season.

Guys are giving Manu too much credit. First Duncan is and will be our best player, he makes this team go. Manu gave us scoring off the bench which Mason and now Hill look to have been able to do.

Manu is a good defender and a good rebounder so that will help but he will not make KT box out or rotate, nor will he make bonner be able to defend and rebound, nor will he block shots.

Our Fg% D has gotten softer every year, that is the problem and Manu will not fix that. When you have no shot blockers or changers you have to play soft on shooters who will then shoot a higher clip, which leads to more points scored......thats the issue. Remember last year when we couldnt keep up with teams offensively, now we can but we cant stop anyone.

I can see us being an 8th seed if we dont vastley improve our D.

I hate to say it this early, but every game counts in the west. a couple of games can seperate the the 1 from the 4 seed.

+We lost 3 games to WC teams.

oh geez, I forgot to mention how the 3 losses might affect seeding in the west if we have to use head-to-head wins and losses as tie-breakers.

-Manu is not even close to being our best player, sorry..he's too inconsistent to be our best player, and he's too injury-prone..

-there are only 3 teams better than a healthy Spurs team IMO..Lakers, Hornets and Rockets..

this team needs more help than ginobili. last year's spurs were NOT better than the lakers even with ginobili healthy. scoring droughts occurred through the season and postseason so they still happened when healthy ginobili played. the defense regressed and the spurs let kobe run all over them. unlike boston, the spurs' team defense seems to be declining. the spurs should also start looking for someone to replace bowen. if hill and mason continue to develop and ginobili comes back better than ever, the defense and offense will improve. but the spurs need a defensive big that won't be a liability on offense if they want to compete with the hornets and lakers.

We will start getting wins again when Pop stops playing mad scientist with the lineup. He will find a couple good ones and then our hopes will come back to life.
