I don't mind it that much..at least we know Mason is legit, and we now have a very good 4th option on offense..

Tony Parker scored a career-high 55 points, including a 20-footer at the buzzer to force a second overtime, in the San Antonio Spurs’ 129-125 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night
After Al Jefferson backed down Tim Duncan and sank a turnaround hook to put Minnesota up 116-114 with 2 1/2 seconds left in the first overtime, Parker took the inbounds pass, dribbled right, pump-faked once and let the ball fly. He let a sly smile creep across his normally stone face as the Wolves trudged back to the bench.
Jefferson paused to sit on the scorer’s table before play resumed and just shook his head as if to say, “What more can we do?”
San Antonio won for the first time in four games this season, and picked up its sixth straight win and 11th in the last 12 meetings against Minnesota.
Parker scored six of his team’s first eight points in the second overtime to stretch the lead to four, though Randy Foye made a 3-pointer from the corner to cut the lead to one. The Spurs rebounded a pair of missed jumpers, before Parker finally went to the line with 19 seconds left and made it 128-125.
That gave Parker the highest scoring output by any individual opponent in the Wolves’ 20-year history. Shaquille O’Neal had 53 points for Orlando in 1994.
Parker was 22-of-36 from the field and added 10 assists and seven rebounds.

Well, Parker more than did his part to fill the void, as he’s actually done all four times the Spurs have taken the court in Ginobili’s absence to an ankle injury. Swishing soft mid-range jumpers and speeding to the basket for layups, Parker raised his scoring average to 33.3 points.

Seriously, this team needs two big things to happen for this to be a contending team:
1) Manu to come back strong and productive
2) Ian and Tolliver to bolster the front court at least to the point where the Spurs aren't giving up damn near 30 second chance points.
I'd also suggest throwing Farmer into Finley's spot (when Finley is playing the 2) and only giving Finley spot minutes now and almost no minutes once Manu returns. Farmer can't be any worse of a defender and surely can bring more energy and athleticism to both ends of the court.
It's all going to start with defense, and this team needs a boosted front court with Ian/Tolliver and Finley to sit the fuck down.

Yeah. I am happy the Spurs finally got their first W, but a little concerned that it took 2 OTs and 55 pts from Parker to do it, very concerned that there's so many players not providing much offense or defense right now (I'm looking at YOU, Udoka, Finley, Thomas, Oberto, Bowen, Vaughn, and Bonner).
But the good news is, Mason is looking like a brilliant, low key off season pick up.

Our offense has been great especially with Tim and RM. The thing I'm still worried about is our defense and I don't think that's going to change even if/when Manu comes back.

Its not. We just dont have the guys who are quick enough. The guys who used to play like that Bruce are pacing themselves to have something left in the end. And we will need alot of energy in the end, because we wont get HCA. With guys named Fab,Kurt,Matt etc. Your not gonna get better on defense your gonna get worse. And when it comes to making stops it all starts under the paint.

If our defense was usual Spurs level that could be enough points for a 20 point win. Unfortunately our D is some of the worst I've seen in years. We gotta get the D back to Spurs level. That is by far the first thing we need to work on.

This cannot obviously continue for long. What a useless support crew they have. Front office better figure out something quickly. Apparently $1-3 million or more per year is not enough to motivate those losers.

defense hasn't been horrible... it's the offense that has just 3 characters able to contribute... we need Bonner, KT, Udoka, Oberto, Bruce and Fin to produce something at least...

Spurs have not been getting much out of Bowen, Finley, Bonner/Thomas/Oberto (though he's been out so I guess he has an excuse). The lack of production from so many key players is the reason why the Spurs have struggled out of the gates. And it's not just that these players are struggling offensively, they are all struggling on the defensive end as well.
Bonner needs to go back to the doghouse. Period. I have ZERO hope for him. Everyone else, hopefully, mothernature and time hasn't finally gotten hold of them and they have at least one more good year left in them. Otherwise, let's hope Tolliver, Farmar, and Ian come through even a little.

Yeah I didn't mean we'd be OK with just those 3 scoring. I was just saying the defense needs more work than the offense. You are right about the others needing to contribute though. They need to contribute big time.

I don't even mind Finley starting, for "leadership" and if it makes Pop happy, but sit him down after about 6 minutes, and only put him back in if there's just no other option. Dude is done.

I wouldn't worry about that. When you play 82 games you are going to have a game or two like this one. Remember last season, Manu dropped 46 points on the Timberwolves last year and won the game at buzzer.
The Spurs needed a win and sometimes it just takes one win to get their confidence back. Three of their first four last games were decided in the last minute of the ball game. So getting one to go your way on the road...it's good.
I was very impressed with TP..obviously. But I was greatly impressed with Roger Mason Jr. His 26 points shows he is a legit scorer and gives the Spurs another scorer who can get his own shot and create shots for others.
And don't forget George Hill....he has played well the last two games. The Spurs have some athleticism and guys who put the ball in the basket. Now...it is going to take time to gel (especially on defense)!!!!!!!

Very true. It's also amazing that our three top scorers are all shooting better than 55% from the floor and we're 1-3. Don Nelson and Mike D'Antoni would be very proud of the job our Spurs are doing on defense.
If the Spurs can get stronger in the paint, this team would be doing pretty darn well. I hope Mahinmi can come in and make an impact.
The Spurs may look kinda crappy right now, but I'm sure the rest of the league knows what's looming.
Spurs defense will come to be. It always starts slow and by the end of the season, we're back in the top 3 defensively.
Manu will come back rejuvenated and rested for the home stretch of the season. Which will make Money Mason a brilliant 4th scoring option, something the Spurs have never really had.
Plus you can't expect this string of injuries to last forever. I'd rather see it nag our guys in the first 20 games than in the last 20.
I also wouldn't be entirely surprised to see a midseason trade, if not a sly pickup (*coughHorrycough*).
If the Spurs can hang tough through November and maintain striking distance, the NBA better keep they heads on a swivel.

it would be nice if we could consolidate 3 of our bench players into one useful bench player. like bowen, finley, and oberto for a PF who can play with his back to the basket, or someone like Scola :(
