Ahhh, thanks. Good for him.
What about Kenton Paulino?

They have a fairly competitive starting five right off the bat:
PG Johnson
SG Hairston
SF Williams
PF Gaines
C Angounou
and I hope Dawson is fully healed and gets a chance to show his stuff.

Chump where did Watkins end up?i don't think he's shown up anywhere yet -- definitely not on Iowa's roster.
It's possible, though unlikely, he's back in the draft. If he wants to stay in the states, I think there is a chance he could be holding himself out of the available pool until a team he likes is at the top of the acquisition list.

Any chance the Spurs keep tabs on him? Or will they just look elsewhere if they ever go looking for frontcourt help?

I wish we could have allocated Watkins instead of Gaines

Any chance the Spurs keep tabs on him? Or will they just look elsewhere if they ever go looking for frontcourt help?I'm sure they'll keep tabs on him, but I wouldn't expect him to come back to the states until after the Chinese season.
Jermareo Davidson, Crhris Richard and Chris Alexander would probably be among the first big men called up this season if some team needs help.
With the lackluster interior defense the Spurs have played thus far, I don't think Farmer is safe. I can absolutely see the Spurs taking a chance on, say, Jermareo Davidson or some such. If Bowen continues to look slow, I'd favor waiving Farmer and protecting Hairston with a contract---he might not develop, but I like the protection.

1. play in the D-League and make 20K for the entire season
2. make 40K...a month
D-league isnt exactly the same level as Spain's ACB either
cash is king
btw, chinese league ends in about march/april. some players then get picked up by other teams in europe

The Spurs don't typically go with youth when they have a major need like this. They're more likely to dig up some vet and recycle him long enough to band-aid the problem.

Good to see Hairston with the Toros. We all know the defense is there, so maybe he works on his game and earns a call up later on this season.

If the defense doesn't get better soon, Hairston will get a call early.

Good news to see Hairston picked Austin over more money overseas. And while Charles Gaines isn't an NBA player, he'll probably do pretty well on the D-League level.
I'm not too enthused about bringing Marcus Williams back. While it's true that he can put up good numbers on this level, he'll also eat up a lot of touches that could go to players with actual NBA ability. Williams will probably find himself at PF again and produce greatly but that's worthless in terms of finding an NBA quality bigman. The only good news regarding Williams is that after he didn't even come close to making an NBA team, perhaps he's humbled and willing to work harder than he did last season.
P.S.
Looking at that roster, a pull of Ayuso and either Davidson or Richard in the first two rounds would make sense. Although, even though the fit isn't great, I'd still happy with White, Byars or Forbes.

Toros Announce Returning and Allocated Players
AUSTIN, Texas (Nov. 6, 2008) – The Austin Toros announced today Serge Angounou, Eric Dawson, Carldell Johnson, and Marcus Williams will return for the 2008-09 season. Charles Gaines and Malik Hairston were assigned by the NBA D-League as allocated players; Tack Minor was awarded a roster opportunity after participating in local player tryouts earlier this month.
Serge Angounou (6-8, 236, Arizona State) averaged five points and four rebounds in 20 games with the Toros last season. Eric Dawson was plagued by injury in his rookie year and the 6-9 forward/center from Midwestern State looks to capitalize on his rehabilitation during the summer months. Point guard Carldell “Squeaky” Johnson (5-10, 178, UAB) averaged four points, two rebounds, and three assists in 49 games.
Guard/forward Marcus Williams (6-7, 205, Arizona) received Gatorade Call-ups from the San Antonio Spurs and finished the season with the LA Clippers. Williams was selected in the second round of the 2007 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs and appeared in seven preseason games before joining the Toros. Williams averaged 19 points and seven rebounds in 36 games with the Toros. He received third team recognition for the 2007-08 season and was player of the week for March 10, 2008.
Forward Charles Gaines (6-9, 223, Southern Mississippi) played in Spain, France, Italy, and most recently Turkey, where he appeared in 28 games and averaged 12 points and eight rebounds in the Turkish TBL League. Guard/forward Malik Hairston (6-6, 200, Oregon) averaged 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists in his final season at Oregon. Guard Tack Minor (6-0, 196, LSU) averaged 23 points and five assists in Mexico last season.
“We are very pleased to have our returning players,” said Toros head coach Quin Snyder. We are excited to continue in their development. Additionally, we believe Gaines, Hairston, and Minor have great potential to succeed in this league.”
Toros fans will gather at Champions Sports Bar (4th and Trinity) to participate in the 2008 NBA D-League draft November 7th starting at 7 p.m. ET. The first round of the draft will air live on NBA TV.

I doubt the Toros can pick up any swingmen better than Hairston and Williams, so I'm penciling them in there. It would be nice to have a true center, but Angounou/Gaines/Dawson could work out well if needed.
I guess we'll get the full draft list tomorrow. It's nice that the Spurs game will be on during the later part of the draft. I think we'll stick around Champions 'til halftime, though quality players went as low as round 7 last year.

happy to see Malik is there!
if we can keep our 08 draft picks for the future, that'll be great.
Screw Marcus Williams!

That's exactly my short list too. The one player I really wanted was Steven Hill, but Presti gave him a contract yesterday. I doubt any of those players make it to the Toros snake, though. Bummer.
