Man Associated With Spurs Accused of Sexual Assault
Woman Making Allegation Has Signed Complaint Waiver

POSTED: 10:01 pm CST February 18, 2005
UPDATED: 10:24 pm CST February 18, 2005

SAN ANTONIO -- KSAT 12 News has learned that the district attorney's office is reviewing a sexual assault allegation made against a person associated with the San Antonio Spurs.

It's KSAT's policy not to name an alleged rape victim, and the station is not naming the person accused because he has not been charged.

According to a police report obtained by KSAT 12 News, the 30-year-old woman claims she was sexually assaulted on March 18, 2004. She did not report it until Jan. 4.

The woman is from Fond du Lac, Wis., where she initially went to police claiming she'd been sexually assaulted in San Antonio.

Although her name and the accused person's name are blacked out on the station's copy of the report, police sources said she names a person associated with the Spurs as the man who allegedly attacked her.

"Without getting too graphic, I can at least tell you that's she alleging a sexual assault occurred at a hotel room here in San Antonio," said Sgt. Gabe Trevino, San Antonio Police Department spokesman.

The report states the alleged assault happened at a Marriott hotel in the Medical Center area.

The woman said she was in San Antonio for a follow-up doctor's appointment, when the man came to her room around 10 a.m.

She told detectives the man ordered a pornographic movie without asking her and then went to the bathroom.

When he returned, the report says he walked over to the woman and began to kiss and fondle her.

She alleges he pulled her to the bed, took off her clothes and sexually assaulted her.

The woman told detectives she screamed and begged for him to stop but he did not.

San Antonio investigators have contacted the man.

A police source said his attorney got involved right away. Shortly thereafter, the woman signed a complaint waiver, which means she did not want to cooperate any longer.

"We've completed the investigation, and we're going to forward that over again to the district attorney for a review, complaint waiver signed or not," said Trevino.

KSAT 12 News was unable to contact the woman in Wisconsin. She would not answer her door, and she disconnected her telephone.

An attorney for the man has also been in contact with the woman. He claims to have a signed affidavit from the woman saying she made up the story.

A sex crimes detective took the case to the district attorney.

"Ultimately, the district attorney has to make the decision on whether they will present it before a grand jury or even prosecute the case," said Trevino.

The Bexar County district attorney's office did not comment on the case Friday night.

How close is this guy associated with the Spurs? A player or just a person who works in the office, like a paper boy.

Doesnt specify.

But it did happen a long time ago - March 2004.

Dont know if that helps or hurts the accused.

On one hand its questionable as to why she waited so long to report it but on the other hand if she made it up you would figure she would say it just happened.

Just for fun. If it is a player, not saying it is, who do you think is the most likely to commit this crime?

I say Rasho.

Haha. Just Kidding, he's probably to least likely.

"Man associated with Spurs" sounds deliberately vague. I bet it's someone in management.

Please none of the following:

Pop, buford, TP, Manu, or Brown.

That's why i said please none of the following, however the only player I know is incapable of this sort of thing is Tim, but i highly doubt it was manu.

BTW are you implying that TP, Pop, Buford, or Brown are suspect here?

Speculation is futile. Sometimes it can be hurtful.

Shortly thereafter, the woman signed a complaint waiver, which means she did not want to cooperate any longer.Damn, that was quick.

You do recognize the inherant contradiction in what you said, right? If she wanted to make a quick buck, she wouldn't have waited.

Damn, it's amazing how quickly we start to sound like Laker fans after the Kobe story broke.

We don't know if it was a player.

Speculating "just for fun" which player would be "most likely" to rape somebody is shameful and offensive.

none of this means it was a player but if it was.
These are all only accusations until proven.

Amen, Brother. Associated could mean an employee of the Spurs Corral. Let's leave this alone until it is revealed by legal action, if ever. :pctoss

Was there any follow-up to this by KSAT, or just this report?
