Okay, this thread is a meager attempt to counter-act the 57 jumping-off-a-bridge threads that will be started in the next 72 hours. As far as I see it, here are the two most likely scenarios for the rest of the Spurs season:

1. The Spurs keep their head above water while Manu and Tony are out, find a way to gel in the latter half of the season, and have a legitimate shot at making some noise in the playoffs, even if they are a 4-8 seed.

2. The Spurs never recover from injuries and the supporting cast never becomes cohesive. They miss the playoffs, enter the lottery, and get the best chance they've had in years to add some great young talent to the future via the draft.


I know Spurs fans are spoiled, don't like losing, and anything less than a championship is a disappointment, but don't both of the scenarios above have a significant silver lining?

3. The spurs win enough to squeak into the playoffs with a 6-8 seed and get bounced in the first or 2nd round.

To say the draft blows before a single college game has been played is just crazy. The real problem is getting a high enough pick for the right player. Freshman we know nothing about could be great players.

If Pop continues to play the new guys, I feel confident that they will improve enough during the next few weeks to keep this team afloat (barring anymore injuries). Once Parker and Manu and Jesus v1.5 are healthy, everything will fall into place.

The real bright side is that despite all of this the Spurs are only 2 games out of first place in their division (which can garner them no worse than a top 4 seed)

However, I would be surprised to see them stay within the 2 game striking range with TP and Manu out.

The bright side to me is that now Pop can get a good look at every player on the bench in a real game situation and finally get a legitimate sense on who can contribute to the team once it is healthy

The only bright side that I can think of about Parker's injury is that now at least he won't kill himself carrying the load with Manu out. This time off could be beneficial in terms of keeping some gas in the tank.

But that's if Parker returns at 100% and the Spurs can avoid going totally down the drain with him gone. I like this team if healthy and rested for the playoffs but that's looking less and less likely with each subsequent strike of bad luck.

I really feel like we need to try and work a deal out with Portland with Kurt Thomas involved for a young talent like Travis Outlaw.

Only way I could see them being hoodwinked into that deal is if they had absolutely no scouting department at all and totally ignored how awful he has been this season..

The point would be that this is yet another ankle injury for Parker.

It's funny how people assume that injuries just leave you the same as before.

Rubio is better than Parker at his age.

So if can get a hold on him, an injury-prone Parker might become tradeable.

I hope Parker takes all time he needs for recovery. To hear a player getting hurt is always not a good thing, & it's even an disaster if the player is from your favorite team. The positive side may be there's lot of playing time available, when the younger players may prove themselves. (Of course, they may disappoint us, but at least a chance is granted.)

If only Pop drops his ultra-cautious approach, & let guys like Hill, Mahinmi, Tolliver & Farmer play. Mason & Udoka may have already proven themselves. As for Bowen, I dislike saying it but would it be possible to monitor his playing time? Is it possible Tolliver may help in the SF position which is currently thin?
