Mike Monroe

The world's economy may be in a shambles, but the 10 highest-paid NBA players at each position all have eight-figure salaries.

According to 2008-09 NBA salary schedules obtained by the Express-News, Celtics power forward Kevin Garnett continues to rank as the league's highest-paid player, at $24.75 million. He is one of nine players making at least $20 million this season. At $20.6 million, Spurs power forward Tim Duncan ranks eighth.

Given that the average player salary is more than $5 million, most of these players merit what they are making. But there are some glaring exceptions, chief among them the Knicks' Stephon Marbury. At $20.84 million, his salary trails only that of Jason Kidd among point guards. Marbury has yet to play a single minute this season.

The 10 power forwards are the highest-paid group, with average compensation of $16.88 million. The 10 centers are the lowest-paid group here, at a mere $13.76 million. The 10 highest-paid shooting guards average $14.83 million; small forwards, $14.69 million; and point guards, $14.41 million.

There are numerous candidates for the league's most overpaid player, but until, and unless, he is bought out and re-signed elsewhere (which would bring him even more money) or traded, Marbury has that dubious distinction, hands down. Portland power forward Raef LaFrentz, being paid $12.72 million, is a close second.

as always, nice article 228.

having the power forwards as being the highest paid group reflects alot on the way the game is played today.

Warriors is loving that $11mil/year they gave to Ellis.
Larry Hughes.... one of the most expensive cripples in the history of the league.
